We have been informed out here that the current ruler is going to stand down in the very near future. The replacement shall be his eldest son Sheikh Tammim, who is known as a radical and very religious, there is already talk of some of the bars and night clubs getting their liquor license revoked? how will this go down with FIFA and that fat fcuk Blatter, as it is renowned that FIFA and booze go hand in hand e.g. Advertising, sponsorships etc for the upcoming of 2022 WC ........... thoughts guys??????

I gotta be honest, everything about the 2022 world cup is already ****ed. Why not add this to the list?

    The whole situation is ridiculous.

The total population, including migrant workers is just a couple of hundred thousand more than usually comes to a World Cup Finals tournament. Take out the migrant worker population and it is less!

How on earth are they going to have adequate infrastructure to host such an event?

This is before even considering the footballing side of things in such adverse climatic conditions.

It totally stinks of bribery and corruption - proven or otherwise!

The whole thing was corrupt from start to finish, then the talk of changing the time of year because of climate. If climate was a problem then the bid should have failed. A Europe wide withdrawal from the competition if it threatens our respective league seasons might just shake some sense into Blatter in particular and FIFA in general.

You'd expect nothing less of FIFA with their usual incompetence of having some sort of foresight that something like this could happen in this type of this part of the world! <doh>

I'd love Blatter to go but the trouble is who follows, bloody Platini.

I have predicted a while ago that the World Cup will not be held in Qatar as there will be no country of that name around.

    Heyup Jonny <ok>

There are around 1.8 million here (qatari's 350K, rest expats made up of europeans, india, philippines, America's)

Infrastructure, is pretty good now but spending 2.1 billion USD on roads, 16 more hotels going up, google Qatar and West Bay looks like Manhatton.

We worked on the mock stadium and they got it to 23C in the centre circle, that was cooler than the temps they had in USA back in 1994

Bribery and corruption! there shall always be an element of doubt over that.

What i would be concerned about if i was going to be here in Qatar in 2022, is the segregation of the fans, the lead up to entering the Stadiums, the lack of refreshment rooms, the average cost now, of one night in the hotels here is about 175 quid a night, pint is 6 quid, FIFA have dropped a clanger here, but they will not admit to it, just lets sit back and watch FIFA wriggle out of this mess <doh>

    Hi WID,

I apologize, I mistated the actuals but the point remains the same as I believe the last 2 world cups attracted approximately 600k visitors. <ok>

Is that enough for 600k visitors?

Are you with a company that is being contracted to do this? What about the goal lines, what about in the stands?

I have only attended 2 world cups - USA 1994 and SA 2010.

My experience with both is that there was little/no attempt to segregate fans and there were minimal incidents.

In 2010, each participating country was required to bring a special police contingent with them. I recall being at a Germany game where a very large unruly fan was literaly picked up by about 6 police officers clad in black and carried out of the stadium with almost no fuss. The program seemed to be a real success and I would expect FIFA to continue it in future WCs.

I was at SA 2010, saw Portugal v Spain (huge rivalry), Argentina v Germany and Uruguay v Holland. No problems at any of these, bars packed after with rival fans partying and having a great time through to sunrise. Needed to take leave when I got back just to recover. Why no issues? People understood that it was foolish to mess with SA police, no political correctness there, simple case of if you want trouble expect to get the sh1t kicked out of you and then spend time in a hardcore prison, so behave. BTW, Blatter is doing a great job.

Morning Jonny, you dont have to apologise to me mate <ok>

I am not directly involved with the stadiums, but our company is asked to do the Inspections on various items, so we are a little bit in the know, one thing i can say is if the stadiums are finished as they look on the photo's then it will be a show piece, again time will tell!
The air conditioning comes from the terracing, under your seat. In the stadium is not an issue its outside where the problem lies, yesterday was 41C and its hot, imaging outside for over an hour trying to get into the stadium <yikes>
