The point is just about goal scoring. Afonso Alves had a good scoring record in the Swedish league, an incredible record in the Dutch league, an average at best record in England and pretty good in Qatar. That's not the record of a fabulous player.

Of course there are some players who've continued scoring after leaving the Dutch league (fat Ronaldo, RvN, Romario) and others who've been successes after leaving while still not scoring as many goals (Bergkamp and Kuyt say). The point that's being made is that even a ridiculous scoring record in the Netherlands doesn't mean a player will score goals in another league.

I swear he wasn't bad in his first season for Middlesborough, but was just dreadful after that...

If it's a Bergkamp, excellent. Too good to pass up. I suspect he's not

Even if he's plugging a glaring hole i our repertoire, great. I'd be looking for a goal scorer at the moment and yeah he's putting them away, but top scorers in eredivisie don't seem to breach double figures wherever they go when they leave these days, barring that dirty little rodent at liverpool.

You could argue the same of the SPL barring Jelavic's good start.

Belgian top scorers are around the two in three ratio though and seem to carry on when they leave.

Lorient's former Arsenal striker Jeremie Aliadiere, 30, is wanted by Everton, Swansea, West Ham, Sunderland and Southampton, as well as Lyon and Marseille, according to L'Equipe.

Son Heung-Min's agent claims a host of Premier League clubs were interested in signing the South Korea striker, 20, before he completed a £8.49m move from Hamburg to Bayer Leverkusen.

Thies Bliemeister told German paper Bild: "Liverpool, Tottenham, Fulham, Southampton and Cardiff were interested in concrete terms."

Damn, he would have been a hell of a signing.

Haven't we been linked with him for years? I swear we were linked to him in League One, under Pardew

Good call. Perhaps the moral of the story is to pick up a scorer from ajax when available. They don't seem to have had oen for a while.

Pantelic carried on as well if not as the same rate as the crazy scorers.

Plenty of great players come out of the dutch league. Any player you buy from a different league could end up a flop, it's all about good scouting and a bit of luck. Look at Van Persie when he played in the dutch league and look at him now.

yeah fine. so you look at the attributes... and are we in need of a stocky 6 foot striker who will in all probability get 8 goals or more. If we're putting SRL out to pasture yeah.

He's got as much or more strength than benteke. Is he rapid? The youtube highlights i've seen he didn't really seem so. nor did he look like a ball juggler.

De Ridder was made to look a good player on YouTube. Bony to me any way is nearly exactly the same as Benteke. He can hold the ball up has good feet and can score. Been linked to far bigger teams then us, doubt we will make a bid tho as he'll cost a fair bit.

We have definitely made a bid for Banega around the 10million euro mark. Poch knows him on a friendly basis and he is keen to move to the prem. However this is not straight forward as visa issues are expected to occur so prepare for another long month of rumours

Why would there be Visa problems? How many games has he played for the Argies?

If Banega got a work permit when he almost joined Everton 4 years ago, he'd definitely get one now.

EDIT: Okay Wikipedia says he didn't get a visa, but I read this? Either way, I highly doubt there'd be a problem - we got one for Tadanari Lee!

EDIT 2: And then this makes it seem there were no visa problems..? Strange.

Getting him a Visa won't be a problem - we managed to convince the permit-givers that Tadanari Lee should have one on the basis that he was an exceptional talent... :)

We won't be getting him, though.
