What other signings have really got to Saints fans before? The big one for me will always be Crouch. I remember fans I talked to being actually angry we'd bought him!
This is why I would rather listen to the opinion of someone who has seen the guy play. I had seen Crouch and I was raving about him.
Crouch was a player who Villa fans weren't high on and couldn't get in the team there. A year later he was playing for England. I have faith in the new lad, like I said, I think he'll do just fine. Besides, with the new Sky deal we are all going to see some highly inflated fees this year, we just have to remember that. All of Europe is broke, and the Premier league just got flooded with cash.
I don't think Harding will have cut it. Was dropped in favour of other left backs and Forest fans don't rate him either. That's how these things work right?
Give the guy a chance! So it sounds like he had a bad season but you never know, a new league could change things for the better for him. If he's good enough for Cortese and Pochettino, then I trust that he's good enough for our ambitions. Welcome to Southampton Dejan, I'm looking forward to seeing how pre season goes.
You spend time away from your computer? You have a social life? That's almost as surprising as Saints securing a signing before pre-season!
I agree. I know how fashionable it is to hate Fox, he has been the weak link in most of our earlier games, but he is better than Harding. Harding would have struggled at NPC level, Fox struggled at PL level. I don't think Fox was as terrible as everyone makes out in NPC.
We've bought a young international player. Price has no affect on his ability...so let's not start the old Ramirez argument again. Mauricio, who is a defender, wanted him...Cortese agreed the purchase. If you look for mistakes, you will see them. After having a difficult and unhappy season, he will hardly play better if fans get on his back. Welcome him and encourage him to grow...which I'm pretty sure the team will do.
I feel like I have entered a strange parallel universe where everything is back-to-front, SaintsWeb are more positive about this signing than we are , that has to be a first!
Signings are rarely made without the current season in mind. Particularly on a debut season in a higher division. We spunked huge amounts on players who didn't contribute substantially. I'm not saying Lovren will be a bad signing. I'm just saying I don't think you can say he will be based on a track record that has been less impressive since Pardew left. In his time the vast majority of signings became first team fixtures on merit and not just because they were coming into a depleted squad.
It was also far easier for us to recruit in L1, we were one of the big fish in the league and were effectively the Man City/Chelsea money wise aswell. Meant we could sign players too good for the division. We don't get that in the Prem
