Daily Mail & Telegraph reporting that Pardew is planning a 6 million bid for Darren Bent.

Can't see it myself, he's 30 in February, would want 40k-50k p/w and it just doesn't match our transfer blueprint. Would anyone take him??? On a side note the fact he's played for Sunderland doesn't bother me in the slightest, I just don't think it would be a good deal for us.

Agree. Can only see it as a 'panic buy' if Cisse is off and we're just left with Shola.

Darren Bent is just playing the same money-earning game that most footballers are.

That said, I personally don't want another parasidic ex-England striker here for nothing but the money.

Its like anything, particularly for strikers, if he comes and we pay £6m for him and pay him £40k per week and he bangs the goals in for fun then no-one will actually give a rats ass that we paid £6m for him, or that we are paying him £40k per week....or even that he played for the filth.

Thats how football works I'm afraid.

Like many of you guys say, at 30 years old you start to think about your retirement fund so hes looking for a big pay day now but who wouldnt?!

And its totally against your way of working in the transfer market anyway like you say, total pish article and I would have thought better of the Telegraph.

I think he could do a job for us forr 2-3 years and at the end of the day he knows where the goal is.
It will also wind up the Mackems which helps with Derby day banter.

    First of all hes 29.

Second his goalscoring record in **** teams is actually very good. He knows where the net is and has premier league experience.

If its 6 million and hes on 40k a week its a good ****ing deal for any striker that scores goals.

My problem with this is he's not a leader. Sure, he's English and been around a while, but that does not make him a solid figure on the field. I've never really seen the guy go somewhere and 'fit in'. Certainly cannot see how he'd work with Cisse.

I cannot see how £6m for Bent is good value if Carroll is available for £12m (and he would be, 'cos we'd pay up front and if we lodged interest there's no way Mandy would sign for West Ham, essentially leaving Liverpool with a striker they desperately don't want or £12m in the bank).

I've just seen Hull have bid 4m for Gary Hooper. Personally I'd rather we bought Hooper than Bent.

Think we sould forget about Bent and bring in Francis Jeffers, he is out of contract and has an amazing international goal to game conversion rate might be hard to compete with Accrington mind...

Oh Lord, surly we have more ambition than Darren Bent..... I am presuming that this is just more lazy speculative journalism, only designed to fill space during a quiet time transfer wise.
If it is true, then it's lazy and uninspired on the part of the club, bit like Bent really, just not good enough.

Resale value in Bent after a season or two at the Wonga Bowl? This is the reason Ashley won't sign him. Carr has his orders, and is probably scouring France or one of her colonies right now for another Cabaye.

If we sign a player like him we will face another season of wretchedness.
