http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...ffer-for-Aston-Villa-striker-Darren-Bent.html Pardew, the Newcastle United manager, has added Bent to his list of potential transfer targets and is ready to take on Fulham in an attempt to sign the £24 million forward this summer. Bent will be available for less than half the initial £18 million Aston Villa paid for him in January 2011 after talks with manager Paul Lambert last month and is keen to revive his career ahead of the World Cup in Brazil next year. The 29 year-old endured a frustrating season in which he spent the final six months largely confined to the substitutes’ bench. Any move would require him to take a substantial pay cut from the estimated £65,000 a week he earns now. Newcastle may be prepared to pay him only half that amount but Bent is determined to make a fresh start and would be prepared to return to the North East, nearly three years after his departure from the club’s bitter rivals Sunderland. Pardew, who managed Bent at Charlton Athletic, wants to strengthen his attacking options after a disappointing campaign in which Newcastle avoided relegation by only five points, and is waiting for the green light from his board after showing interest in the last two transfer windows. There has been interest shown in Andy Carroll but any deal appears remote because of the fee demanded by Liverpool, plus his wages. Villa will ask for a sizeable fee for Bent, who has two years remaining on his contract, but would be happy to do business in an attempt to move him off the wage bill. There have been tentative inquiries from both Newcastle and Fulham, though no formal bids have yet been received. There have also been discussions with Christian Benteke’s representative over an improved contract while Ciaran Clark, the Republic of Ireland international, is also expected to agree a new deal shortly. They're welcome to the little ****. He'll get them goals, but with age creeping up and a bad injury I reckon his pace will have dried up a fair bit. Fletch will score more next season
Proven goal scorer, needs a career boost, last chance of WC glory? Why not? He has more to prove to us than himself so bring him back.
He is part his prolific stage mate and is an expensive trinket these days imo. I wouldn't have him back for £80k per week now and he will be a disruptive personality in the dressing room. He can't mix and is an aloof character. I can't wait for the derby if he signs, to 'welcome' him back in proper style. He is a man with fragile mentality and if if thought the reception was hostile when he returned with Villa, he will visibly **** himself this time. The fact he is even interested in going to the mags, after what he did to us, tells me what a total **** of a man if is. The mags are welcome to such a scumbag player imo.
We got rid of Bent just at the right time imo. Didn't see it that way at the time , but he does seem to have lost something.
He'd do well there, i'd be friggin sick if they get him... Maybe Miss Bruce is longing for a jaunt doon the pig market.
If he signs for them and scores only 1 goal next season I can guarantee who that goal would be scored against I'd have him back here on a low basic and goals / appearance related pay
Newcastle United aren't interested in shelling out a huge fee for Darren Bent. It is understood that while Alan Pardew is good friends with Bent, the £6million tag for the Aston Villa man is too high. The Birmingham club paid £18million for Bent from Sunderland two years ago, however, the move hasn't worked out for the Londoner. The former England international has been offered to a host of clubs, including United, but with Bent wanting £70,000 per week the demands are way above the budget at Newcastle. At 29 Bent does not fit into United's blueprint as they are still looking to add younger blood to their ranks. Bent made 23 appearances last term scoring six goals but has been told he can leave Villa. Reports from the capital claimed that there was interest yet history shows that Mike Ashley wants to avoid the days of high earners seeing out their career on Tyneside - something that was written in the club's blueprint in 2010.
All joking aside, no thanks, plus he's 1/5 for west ham, mags 2nd Ex newcastle player/supporter, last thing we need
Think he was a couple of games from triggering his last clause and are you for real with Big Lass? He's not good enough to play proper football on the deck. He'll go to West Ham with Route One Sam.
Paper talk lads. I can't see fat Mike shelling out that kind of money on a 29 year old who will have little re-sale value at the end of his contract. Big wages too. No, more summer journalism and speculation.
