Make or break season for him for me. Personally when he's on form I wouldn't swap him for any other ball winning midfielder in the league. He needs to get back to basics and recycly possession with 5-10 yards passes rather than trying to play defence splitting passes because that's not his game.

Fcking Pards - took a cracking, specific player and tried to get him to "do more". Pardew can't accept that you can just be excellent at something with the very occasional flash of inspiration; once Tiote hit that volley against Arsenal he seemed to think "aha, another box-to-box midfielder, yippee". It's like making Ben Arfa/Cabaye track back, play Sissoko in the number 10, Jonas at left back, and so on. Did Makelele, in his glittering career, ever have some clown say "you know, I like what you do - I really do - but do you think you could maybe chip in with a few more goals, please?"

Pretty much this for me. I rate him highly when in form but he is a holding midfielder who should break up play and release. Nothing more, nothing less. Forget trying trying to be clever or box to box, just do the basics. He'll pick up less bookings and look a better player. Some intensive work on his ball playing should be done in pre season. Think Makelele not Seedorf basically! He has limited ability (not suggesting he's in Makelele's class either because he does not possess that kind of brain).

We were always taught the role of a holding midfielder is to operate in an imaginary semi circle surrounding the 18 yard box. Aside from that to attack the ball in the last third and pick up the scraps from the centre half/striker battle. Pretty simple stuff but very effective for the team. As Cantona descibred Deschamps, the water carrying role.

His 'day' is too few and far between for me. Has always been prone to being caught in possession and this trait has only gotten worse. A complete liability. Get rid.

He was sensational in that game, worked so hard to protect his team! He'll be back, this last season has to have hurt him.

I do like this. At least he has made a proper statement, not just cheap made-up newspaper talk for once. The fact he has said this at least means he WANTS to be here and has some PRIDE to wear our beloved shirt. Would much prefer 11 of those than flashy star players who don't really care or don't want to graft for the team.

BUT...as others have said, he needs to get back to doing what he does best. Basics. Forget about last season and concentrate on holding up the opposition play, winning the ball fairly (aggressively yes, but fairly) and then playing simple passes to the nearest Toon player in space.

If we get THAT Tiote back next season, along with the mind set displayed by the statement he's just made, then I will be very happy. <ok>

Was kind of expecting some debating going on about that.

We'll all be very happy. The thing is, he seems very sincere in what he's saying.

Like the cracker against Arsenal in the 0-4 - 4-4 game.

That's no way to talk about a decent poster like LE.

What I will say is that time and again he's always said he wants to remain with us even last summer when his stock was high. Should be commended for that <ok>
