Growing speculation that he is one of the 2 keepers that we will have on trial. A fan favourite when he was here but left some what of a sour taste when he left. We still to this day never know the true story of why he left, One was that he had a bust up with Johnson, Another was he thought he was better than the club. The real question is would we want him back? 38 years old now so maybe at best 2 years left in him. Me personally, I wouldn't mind him returning as a back up and if the wages are right, Would be a little disappointed if we're looking at him as a first team keeper but still love the bloke and we haven't had a chant that everyone sang since OHHHHHHH BASSOOOOOO Thoughts? please log in to view this image
Not as First choice wasn't good enough in the final reckoning as he couldn't command the area and made too many Hollywood/TV saves.
Who cares as long as he saved them Also on twitter, Not my words but apparently Gary Woods IS one of the 2 keepers. Don't know how true it is but that's the word on the street, I would love these 2 to come in as our keepers. To have woods and 1st choice and Basso as 2nd would be great IMO
Basso can't be second choice the backup keeper has to be eligable to play in the development squad that means U-21
Who cares as long as he saved them The problem with those sort of saves diving across late to palm the ball away is when you don't get it right the ball drops to an attacking player and they slot it past you happened a few time that I saw.
We've fallen to League 1 because we've kept the old guard, and have watched them gradually get worse and worse. So our next step is, to hire one of the old guard? I loved Basso, but he made his decision when he wanted out. I'd consider it a very worrying sign if we re-signed him, and I'd be surprised if he were good enough for this level.
But S O'D did specify he wanted a Young Keeper as backup and I think AB is somewhat long in the tooth to qualify as young.
Ive seen worse in a hull shirt, Prob ok for league one. Although didnt he suffer from tendonitus or similar so not sure how many games youll get out of him
I did say he was probably one of the trialists in another thread here http://www.not606.com/showthread.php/215148-Keepers-Set-for-City-Trials inside knowledge or lucky guess work? you decide
YES It is a NO. What a waste of time and money if we sign another overrated old keeper. There are plenty of good ones around under 30.
Old saying in life "Never go back as it will never be the same as it was before" Very true. We need Adriano Basso like we need a hole in the head.
Stick with the youth policy because it could give us a brighter future than signing Basso. He left us under a cloud and both parties need to move, on so a definite no in my book.
As I said at the time I didn't like the way he waited until Chris Weale had left the club to announce he wasn't going to sign a new contract, because he knew that Weale would almost certainly sign a new contract and replace him in goal for that season at the very least.
