One of the big boy's and away from home would be my preference. If we are still settling down after the summer then its a game we would expect to lose anyway so no great harm. if they are not firing yet then we could sneak some unexpected points which later in the season would probably be denied us. But I dont want a string of them!
A lower half team at home. Preferably one of the promoted sides. We need to get off to a good start this time.
Don't care who we play on day one. We have to play every side at some point anyway. I would prefer a home match on the first day and last day of the season though.
We didn't take any points, no. We did scare the league champions though. Lambert got his first goal. Massive confidence boost all round which I believe was more important than points after our first premier league game.
A team we'd have low expectations to beat. The Saints we all know and love tend to perform better when it's less expected and don't react well to fan confidence. Saying that there is usually very little fan confidence considering our record on the opening day of the season.
Someone insignificant away please, like Stoke or Cardiff, as I have a family wedding to go to the first day of the season. Guess I'll be giving my season tickets away if we're home.
I want the easiest teams possible at the start, as it would make us look more attractive to any prospects if we are top of the table . After the window closes I would like to see a balcance of good, bad, home and away. We should have a good chance of at least picking a point up from every match we play so not too fussed about who we play when.
A team with a new manager that hasnt quite got to grips with their new tactics yet, such as stoke. A team that has sold their star player over the summer but not yet replaced him, or the replacement hasnt settled in yet, Bentecke and Villa for example.
We didnt expect to take anything from that game, i expected us to get whipped, but we put in a fantastic performance and nearly took points off the champions at home. I certainly left the Etihad with a lot more confidence for the season than i did on the way in. Admittedly most of that confidence had drained away after a couple of months...
I understand where you are coming from Frankimus, but this year I'd take a dodgy 1-0 win with an off-side, last minute handball winner.
Hughes is a joke manager. How can you possibly think he would be a better option than Pulis. I think Peter Coates has lost it. Either that, or he thought they'd get Martinez and settled for Hughes instead? They still could have done better though, that's for sure.
Hughes isn't that bad a manager IMO. Sure he ****ed up at QPR and didn't do a great job at City but did good jobs at Blackburn and Fulham. I just don't see how he can be called a "joke manager" when his track record isn't that bad.
