Interestingly enough our most expensive signing during the Premiership years (adjusted to current market) was DAVID HIRST. His 2m fee adjusts up to nearly 7m now. Doesn't seem great value_

The only crime about that signing was we didn't get him when he was younger. A very good player who scored some very important goals. Nowhere near this list.

Really enjoyed the Niemi video, he had absolutely no right to make about 80% of those saves! I remember being at Uni when he hit that shot into the crossbar and got the assist, I went on an all night drinking bender in celebration!

I loved Niemi - a joyous step up from Beasant and Brucie to be honest! I'd managed to forget how awful McCann was until this thread came along...

Can I bung Mark Hughes into the hat for worst signing. A massively disruptive influence and not all that great.

Yeah, Michael Svensson scored and was rightly congratulated, but Antti got mobbed by the players. :) I used to have the video of the goal, but lost it. I'd love to see it again.

Van Damme was an excellent player, and still is; he just didn't like it here for some reason.

Saganowski? He was quite something during that loan spell...crap the rest of the time, though.

Think I've mentioned before about being at Staplewood and watching a reserve game with Jelle playing at LB and he was in a furious mood with his teammates who, I think he felt, were all hoofers compared to him. His open anger lost any sympathy from me.

Saganowski was astounding during his loan spell and he just somehow lost it. It wasn't for the want of trying, in fact I think he tried too hard at times. During his last few weeks as a Saint, I believe he played in the same team as Rickie and scored a perfectly good goal which was disallowed. That's the way his Saints career went in the end. I'll always remember his though:

Oh great memory. I liked Saga and this game was unreal. I especially enjoyed it as I went with a mate who is a Wolves fan and sat in the home section. My mate is 6'4" and a big lad so I got out safely!

My son's first away game. I remember Wolves hammering us for 20 minutes and thinking "please hang on for a point, it's his first game"

    Kenwyne Jones?

Not for his Saints performances, but in terms of profitability. Signed for peanuts and sold for £6m I think

Not last 15 years but Jason Dodd was signed from Bath for about 50k. Countless PL appearances, a testimonial & still here coaching.

I remember after the match Mick McCarthey said Wolves could "take a lot of positives from that game"! What a bellend.

Took my eldest to see a pre-season friendly at Brentford I think? Crowd was full of Poles who were mad about Saga! My son was singing that Saga song for weeks!

Longer than 15 years but surely Speedie and Dixon have to be up there with some of the worst. Esp as brantfoot sold shearer and replaced him with those muppets.

To be fair Oli, their fans applauded them off the pitch. They really outplayed us for large chunks of that game. There was just the small matter of us scoring every time we went in their half.

The nearly worst signing was when Branfoot tried to swap Tiss plus cash for Mark Robins. Thank Christ that never went through.....

    Ha ha! Proof!

I've been saying for years how bad McCann was yet no one else ever seemed bothered. God he was awful. I hated him back in the day. Made me never want to see Saints sign another player from the SPL !!

    Atrocious player.
