It appears Jose Mourinho returning ‘home’ to Stamford Bridge may have sparked a trend in the Premier League.

While rumours abound that Liverpool may explore a possible move to bring Fernando Torres back to Anfield, it also seems that Newcastle may have upped their interest in Andy Carroll

The Geordie striker moved to Merseyside for a massive £35 million in January 2011 and it is fair to say that he struggled to find his feet in the north-west, eventually being farmed out on loan to West Ham.

During his loan spell the 6ft 3” hitman notched seven times for the Hammers and put in some eye-catching performances that saw him earn a recall to the international fold.

It seemed that Carroll was all set to pen a deal to stay at Upton Park after the two sides agreed a supposed £15 million pound deal.

However, the 24-year-old has allegedly been offered £100,000 a week to seal the deal but is still stalling on a permanent move to the capital.

The Gateshead-born forward is said to be disappointed his childhood club have not expressed an interest in his services and is holding out for a chance to ply his trade closer to home.

Despite noises from the St James’ Park outfit denying interest in re-signing the number nine, his link to the city and their interest in him last summer has seen a move to rejoin Alan Pardew’s men topple from 10/1 to 6/1.

The Toon’s current centre forward Papiss Cisse has been linked with a switch to Russia with the likes of Anzhi apparently interested in the Senegalese.

Should the Magpies receive an offer of somewhere upward of £15 million they may be tempted to allow Cisse to depart and spend that money on bringing their academy graduate back toNewcastle.

Mike Ashley is unlikely to offer Carroll as affluent a financial package as the Irons but the opportunity to pull on the famous black and white stripes again could be enough to convince the England international to accept a lesser offer.

I for one would be pissed off if we sold Cisse and bought Carroll! Carroll will not bang in the same amount of goals as Cisse is capable of. If the plan is to buy Carroll as a partner for Cisse then excellent but otherwise, no, just no!

Different type of strikers though. I think they could make a great partnership and both score goals.

At the minute there's more chance of us signing Kevin Costner than Andy Carroll.

I'd like to see Jordan Rhodes come in to partner him with Adam Campbell and maybe Nicolas Bendtner supporting them.

    Odds down to 6/1 eh?

    It's hardly inspiring is it?

Although I am surprised that Carroll hasn't taken the West Ham offer already...
