I popped into the Saints shop about 6ish and asked the lady about the new kit, i asked her if she has seen it yet and she hadn't. I also asked about training wear and we should be getting some nice Adidas training tops.
This is our new training top: please log in to view this image Just depends if the club have ordered it with a black or red panel.
I reckon that would look quality with a Saints badge on it, might even pick one up for the gym/5-a-side.
The fact that there's a chunk of black on it, makes me feel that black maybe coming back into the home kit again.
It's just a standard training top template. Fulham have it in all black with the white bar across the front. I was just debating whether we would have all red, or retain the black. Especially if the away kit is black.
I don't want the template, decided already. I want something that is OUR'S and unique is that too much to ask? Surely a massive company like Adidas could deal with the orders of something different?
Every company uses templates. It is extremely rare to find a company willing to make a complete original kit, especially for a team like Saints.
The red and white Umbro stripes was a template, as Huddersfield then used it. The previous red and white stripes from '09 was also a template. In 2010 we had the unique sash, not a template but it was for our 125th year. Then we had the pinstripes which is also a template, was used by Ireland.
That aside, I guess Morgan has a point ;-) I have to say, if people don't like the team shirt when it comes out, it seems that there will be a decent choice of training tops to wear instead. And they will be cheaper!
I want a shirt not a billboard. It is bad enough trying to find clothing without the designer label all over it but as for walking around like a sandwich board man? No thanks.
Made me think that it would be funny if a Japanese company sponsored us and we had Japanese characters across the shirt. We would have no idea what it said...so we could tell everyone it meant The Red Arrows.
Even the sash kit was based on a template first introduced in 2010 for the official England kit. It was part of the 'Tailored by Umbro in England' range with the old fashioned button up collar. Blackburn, West Brom and even Atletico Bilbao all used this same Umbro template in the same season we had the sash kit.
I agree, they look like the sort of kits we used to buy in batch for Sunday league. I think we used to get them from JJB.
I have the same reaction to clothing which displays the makers name. I can't help feeling that, instead of paying extra for the privilege, they should be paying me.
I stand corrected. Although we did have that one before Sweden introduced it in the lead up to Euro2012.
