Apart from players in the top rank of Clubs who are still in their prime; are things beginning to even out under the Bosman rule or even swinging in favour of Clubs? With the influx of decent players from Africa and yes, South America, are British and European players entering a phase in their careers where their job opportunities are being curtailed? I believe that many more players are being released by Clubs and as reality begins to bite they will accept contracts with Clubs at levels below which they are used to playing, at lesser money and some will be forced into premature retirement. Anybody else think the PFA should be very worried for their home grown members future?
It's a good post. I expect we'll see players playing in some strange locations as this all pans out too. Andy Reid is a good example of the type of player that you are talking about. There are effectively too many players trying to earn a living from the English game and it isn't in the top two divisions. Even League 2 and non-league sides host a horde of foreigners these days. There's not just the cream coming to England nowadays.
