Probably the greatest player we'll ever have the joy of watching, but with his knee issues I dont think he'll be at the same level in a few years. Could retire by 30 or have a very long lay off like Rafa Nadal in the tennis who seems to suffer from a similar problem.

This guys got some real potential - SIGN 'IM UP BRUCIE!

Seriously, what a fantastic collection of goals. The genius's just seem to make the time and space they need and this bloke may be the best of all time.
(Do you think he'd like settling in say, North Ferriby?) <cool>

I still don't think he's the best... something about him i don't like.

It's probably the fact that if he only plays for barca all his life he'll never prove to me that he can replicate it elsewhere.

Without sounding harsh because he is brilliant, his finishing is the best in the world but Best overall player? why are goals considered more important in those votes?

Also he's not brilliant outside the box is he, only 8 goals, 1 was a blunder from keeper and 6 were free kicks.

His dribbling, control and finishing is 10/10 the best in the world but he's not the complete package for me.

I'd also add that he is assisted brilliantly. He'd have a much harder time with the sideways passing of cairney or the unpredictable crosses from brady and elmo. He literally just has to tap them in or finish them in one touch most of the time because the barcelona football is so brilliant.

Best goal for me is 3rd vs Brazil. Just unreal.

Who would you say is the best then? Also do you really need to get goals from outside of the box if you have the ability to dribble past players to get in the box for an easier finish? I think not. He's the best player we'll ever see. Ever.

Best player in the World bar none.

I would say best of all time, but I can't choose between Zidane or Messi...

Zidane was genius but Messi is on another level. This guy is worlds above anyone else I've seen.

I'm not sure. Besides, they played in different positions which makes it harder to compare. The whole 'best player of all time' doesn't truly work due to the ever changing conditions of footballers, and the fact people play different positions.

I prefer Zidane, but I can't belittle either one of them.

If Messi played left back he would be the best player in the world still.. Don't buy the outside the box argument he dribbles it into the box. Also barcelona have been poor without him this season, really poor they really aren't all that without Messi

I wouldn't say getting to the UCL semi-finals and winning the league with 100 points is all that bad...

Saying that, losing 7-0 to Bayern is ****ing atrocious.

Zidane was better than Messi for me.

He won trophies single handedly for France. They'd have probably beaten italy in the 2006 final if he hadn't nutted Materazzi.

Messi hasn't done much for Argentina in the big events.

I'm not saying Messi is crap any means.

    He's a fantastic player.

He needs to win something with Argentina and to perform better on the international stage to eclipse Zidane for me.

The whole international argument is stupid though! Who gives a **** whether he wins anything with argentina? Nobody! He's broken the world record for goals scored in a year, won the ballon d'or 4 times in a row now? And won everything with barca.

By this crazy international logic Gareth Bale must be ****e cos he hasn't even played in an international tournament let alone won one...
