We've signed George Boyd as he's out of contract at Peterboro; and now things are pointing towards doing the same with Maynor Figueroa.

But what about Elmo? Can it be announced before July 1st, if the deal is agreed? What about Schmeichel?

Is it the case that - as the Transfer window doesn't open until 1st July - nothing can be announced? Or will deals be announced but only made formal from July 1st?

I think Free's can be announced & go through on July 1st, main transfers are normally kept quiet, but if the deal is done, does come out in the press. Navas at Man City is one of those. A lot of deals get half done with agents & chairmen etc, then finalised when everyone gets off their holidays or internationals.

Cheers, Bruce - I had the feeling it was something like that.

It's just that this endless speculation is driving me (and, no doubt, many others) nuts! :steam:

The latter, although I don't ever remember there being a great number of pre-contract deals agreed in previous seasons.

June is really just the month of preparation - agent talk, scouting and shortlisting.

Signings announced in June tend to be free agents that have been made a priority. Not to mention the fact that they're all available to absolutely any club - early bird catches the worm and all that.

Agreed. The same people who want stuff doing now are the same people on deadline day who always say "we could still do with 2 more strikers", despite us having 6 on the books already.

There's no worry about missing out on people, our search for transfer targets probably started back in March/April time. Managers often draw up two lists if they are faced with the possibility of promotion or relegation, then expand the list that's relevant. It's how we got Jakupovic in; we took him in on trial in March and offered him a deal soon after (even though there was a massive balls up).

If we miss out on a player, there's always three more on the wishlist to replace him. Enjoy your holidays, watch the Confederations Cup (Go Tahiti) and just let the transfers roll out.

It wasn't directly aimed at you pal, it just seems that people are getting fidgety at a time when most of the players, management and staff are on holiday. It's mostly the newer posters that are getting anxious. I don't think they realise transfers are not as cut and dry as they are on FIFA.

Spot on. 100% agreed. Well the U21's start today - ICC also starts this week with the Ashes to follow and as you mentioned the Confederations Cup is just around the corner so alot to keep us amused. The fixtures will be out in 2 weeks time and Wimbledon fortnight can also be added to the mix. Wont be long before July 1st when the window officially opens along with the floodgates of transfers. I am sure Brucies PL list of players is more than useful.

July 1st for transfers but anyone out of contract is free to do deals now. Thery just get post dated to july 1st.

    Again very true.

The transfer windows relate only to their ability to play for the side. We can do a deal and announce it when ever we want.
