According to L'Equipe we are to meet with Gervinho for talks early this week. So I assume we will talk to him before he joins up with the Ivorian national team. That's if we believe L'Equipe which I have always understood to be quite a reliable paper! I hope this is true and then I Sit Next To A Badger - Leazes Corner can get the sheers ready!

Hope it's true, we would have one hell of a quality team but we need strikers.

Do you think he will play Gervinho as the lone striker? Can't see Ashley sanctioning Gervinho AND Gameiro

He is still a striker, just not out and out. He's like Arshavin or Pedro from Barca, playing wide in a front 3 but not the focal point of the attack (Sow).

I know we see it that way but honestly can only see Ashley getting in 1 "expensive" signing al la Gameiro or Gervinho and the rest £2-5m type players. Don't think he'd want to spend more than £25m on transfer fees

I was always of the assumption that Pards would go for a 4-4-1-1 rather than a Barca 4-3-3. he said he was playing Ben Arfa behind the front man which means surely if its not 4-4-1-1 it can only be similar to what Man City play, which I don't like 4-2-3-1

Think it'll be 4-4-1-1, we'd need another proper winger for the other 2 and that would be even more midfielders! <yikes>

This way we can use Barton wide right, and free up a spot in the middle.

Everton don't have that kind of money unless Rodwell or Baines have all but gone!

Aye, so assuming we sign Gervinho where do you think he will fit in?

EDIT: Or more to the point we are clearly targeting a player of his position even if we don't get him

There's bound to be competition for his signature though regardless of who its from. I hope its only Everton as we will probably offer him more money than they do
