Best Player - Santi Cazorla definitely Worst Player - Andre Santos/Thomas Vermaelen Best win - Bayern Munich Best all round team performance - Liverpool away. Won't disagree there. Snatching a draw at Man City is also worth a mention. Best Young player - Carl Jenkinson. Struggled to think of many others who have impressed this season. I was half expecting to lose at Bradford. Blackburn has to be the worst, a truly pathetic performance and result
Agree with this. Last season I thought he showed some promise, decent tackling and pretty good going forward, but this season he looked like he'd put on the weight again and lost any sign of developing on the season before, a total liability and a waste of space. The shirt swapping with RVP at HT was the final nail in the coffin for him at Arsenal really.
Santos may have been bad, but that was only for a few games (Schalke and Manchester United). Vermaelen and Sagna played way more games and they were both pretty rubbish in most of those games. So many mistakes and Vermaelen's performance against Spurs at White Hart Lane was an utter horror show.
I don't see the Sagna criticism at all. He was not as good as before, but still nowhere near being our worst player. Vermaelen and Gervinho were worse, and you could even make a case for Oxlade Chamberlain and Szczesny being worse, though that's a close one imo.
Really? I used to be a massive Sagna fanboy but its clear the guy has lost both pace and confidence. For me Sagna's decline was the biggest so he gets my vote. He's still decent but he used to be soo much better. Best Player - Santi Cazorla - by miles. Worst Player - Bakari Sagna - still a good RB but nowhere near his old self. Best win - Bayern Munich Best all round team performance - Bayern Munich Best Young player - Carl Jenkinson - not had enough games though. Oxo worth a shout too. Worst result - Losing to the Spuds Our goal of the season - Theo vs Newcastle Toughest Team we faced - Bayern Munich Most impressive opposition player - Huntelaar - scored 3 goals in two games against us.
That's precisely my point, and precisely why he isn't our worst player. It's not "Biggest decline of a player", it's worst player. He's gone from top 3 players to bottom 5, so yea, biggest decline right there, but Vermaelen and Gervinho were far worse this season. You even say he's "still decent"...
I agree, Sagna even at his worst is not our worst player. The fact that he was preferred by Arsene to our Best Young Player says it all.
Let me try and explain why I find the worst player category so difficult, and the best player, but mainly the worst. Just according to whoscored - Worst player with over 10 appearances Jenkinson. Worst player with over 20 appearances Szczesny, followed by (can you believe it) Koscielny. However, based on their seasonal rating, which rates performances based on opposition and a few other mystic things, Ramsey has a higher rating than Arteta, and Vermaelen makes the team ahead of Koscielny. Now a lot of you are going to say, "That just proves the stats are a load of rubbish". But, for me, it just proves that things can be deceptive. Koscielney has made mistakes this year, he has just got lucky and they haven't been punished. Vermaelen has been unlucky, every time he has made a mistake, the other team have capitalized on it. Ramsey has improved, but there is still a lot of residual hate. Vermaelen's performances in the early part of the season were not bad. Koscielney also had several games where he and the rest of the defense were not worked very hard. Ramsey and Arteta worked their socks off. Impressions are hard to shake off. It is very hard to be impartial, and shake off a bias against a player who plays differently to the way you want him to play. I admit it, I don't think Arteta makes the best defensive midfielder. I'm hoping we upgrade him this year, but it has very little to do with him being a bad or a good player. Its just the way he does it that I don't like. I don't think Giroud is fast enough, and I think he runs funny. I think he looks uncoordinated, but his output this year has been very similar to Theo's in recent past years. If he improves at the same rate, he might be very useful next year. So, I'm going to pass on the whole rating thing, because I think it might just make me look like a fool, and I'm getting too old to be foolish.

You lot aren't going to like this. But I have a season ticket, you lot don't. People need to get real! Best Player - Cazorla - no contest - should always be played in the role he did at the end of the season! Worst Player - Podolski - can't undo the lack of effort he showed when played left-wing with three excellent performances at CF. Best win - None - Arsenal should win all home games anything less is failure (I only comment on matches I went to - didn't do any aways this year) Best all round team performance - Spurs had to win to finish 4th in our special battle Best Young player - Jenkinson - has heart and is a natural defender Worst result - Blackburn FA Cup - gutless Our goal of the season - Adebayor getting sent off vs Spurs Toughest Team we faced - Bayern Munich home only (obviously) Most impressive opposition player - Wenger - he's done more to stop Arsenal winning this year than anyone. Extra award: Pussy of the year goes to Gibbs for being "injured" all the time. Nigel Winterburn would be ashamed!
