John Moore was poor i agree but to say he was worse than Dave Bamber is very harsh. But glad that someone thinks otherwise. Thank goodness those days are long gone like.
Far too many players from the 90's to mention that were utter ****e.. John Moore, Jon French, Andy Brown, Simon Trevitt.. the list just goes on.. overrated.. Ryan Williams was everyone's first choice for Brian Little to buy but turned out to be an expensive (at the time) flop..
I remember him tearing us apart for Chesterfield back in the day, one of the best performances I've ever seen probably. Jamie Wood's another that was garbage.
I'm going to add in a few new ones. Martin Reeves (on loan from Leicester - the future), Tijani Belaid (brilliant Tunisian... hmm remains to be seen), Sergio Leite (Portugese good keeper - maybe not), surprised nobody's mentioned my number 1 overrated city player... DARRYL DUFFY - the future of Scottish football; or a bench warmer for Cheltenham Town.
Iain Hesford was fat and useless ! Bamber was 6' 6"ish tall and jumped to 4'8". But lets face it, it's harder to name good players for City in the late 80's and the entire 90's than duff ones. Yeah I know it was at Boothferry Park, but let's not be pedants eh !
Bamber is my standard reply to this sort of thread... however a little harsh to say the worst to play at the KC. That said even though he never did so should still be in the running for being a talentless c**t with a huge ego
The worst players I saw are not ones from this era but the 80's and 90's beginning with the likes of Neil Buckley who made Sonko look like Bobby Moore. Bamber was **** but there were loads worse from that time like Finnegan, Gwyn Thomas. We have worse goalies than Sumo Hesford too. I was watching in the early eighties but didn't start getting over-critical of players like your typical city bigot till a bit later on as I got older. I do remember thinking at the end of the 90's that it was a sad state of affairs people idolising Gary Brabin , shows how dire we were at the time that this fat ****er was a cult hero
I remember Keane winning us a game away at Barnsley in the League One season scoring twice late on in a 2 1 win, and also him getting man of the match in a home game at hull fair time (I've got a feeling it was Chesterfield) that my old man presented in the Premier Club.
Mark Cullen/ Matt Hocking. I don't think Hocking was that bad but he came with a reputation as a classy centre half and was just a bit ****. Cullen was just plain old ****. His hair used to wind me up as well, Hocking that is, not Cullen.
Cullen was massively ****e! It annoyed me that he was always mentioned in the same breath as cairney and cooper
Along with Hocking, do you recall Chris Bettney? He also arrived with a big reputation but was ****. His only telling contribution was the rowing machine celebration at a 5-1 away defeat to Torkey after David Lloyd slagged the whole team off for being unfit. Thinking about it Hately's team alone could take all the honours - Scott Thompson, John French, Kevin Gage, Brian McGinty, Steve Hawes, Tony Brien, Ian Wright. Ooof that's a painful list. And then Dolan had some beauties in David Jones, Robbie Turner, John Pearson and the like. I tell you what though - as bad as the football was it was more fun being a City fan in those days. I actually feel sorry for anyone too young to have experienced a Torkey away football weekender. Great days.
I think Jon French was still playing when I started going, I was always under the impression he wasn't too bad for where we were at the time. Edit: Just checked on Wiki, French signed after my first game, obviously wasn't him I was thinking of, because even at 6 I'd have known 0 goals in 15 games for a striker isn't a great return.
Always forget his name but the striker PT bought (one for the future) Stuart Green was one of the most over rated
