Aiden McGeady has admitted he may be ready to quit Russia and finally sample the Barclays Premier League.

The 60-times capped Republic of Ireland international has sparked interest from Sunderland, West Bromwich Albion and Aston Villa in the past and he was on the verge of joining Wigan Athletic in January. He could be available for a cut-price £3million from Spartak Moscow with just one year left on his contract.

The former Celtic winger, now 27, has turned down an extension to stay in Moscow, and has also ruled out joining another Russian club.

McGeady said: 'I don't want to spend another four or five years there.

'Nothing to do with being there but, as I've said before, I'd like to try somewhere else. Maybe England.

'It's not the easiest place to live. It's ok for me, I find it ok but it can be difficult for your family and that's obviously a big factor as well.

'It's been an eye-opening experience. It's been enjoyable, and it's been good for me. I can't say I have any regrets about it.

'I can't say anything bad about the Russian league, the team or the way I've been treated. It's been great.'

McGeady marries partner Claire Healey in Glasgow next week and has ruled out being with the Ireland squad which will play world and European champions Spain in New York next week, following Friday’s home World Cup qualifier against Faroe Islands.

Shane Long, who is also getting married, and Stoke defender Marc Wilson, who needs groin surgery, are also set to miss the friendly in the Giants Stadium.

Yes for me if it's £3m. Better than Jimmy Mac on the ball, good competition for places, etc.
