Brendan Rodgers celebrates a year in charge of Liverpool today. Take a numerical look back over his first 12 months at the helm courtesy of club statistician, Ged Rea. please log in to view this image Brendan became only the third Liverpool manager to win his first three European matches in charge - Bill Shankly and Roy Hodgson being the others. He gave first team debuts to 13 players this season including seven who had previously appeared for the U21s. 18 different players scored for Liverpool this season - equalling the club record. Steven Gerrard played 46 times this season under Brendan - more than any other player. Liverpool finished the season with 61 points in the league, meaning that Rodgers had accumulated more points in his first full campaign in charge than any manager since Roy Evans. The Reds recorded their biggest away league win since 2003 when they beat Newcastle 6-0 in April. He named 42 players in his first team matchday squad this season, with 36 earning 'game time'. Liverpool scored five goals in an away European game (at Young Boys) for only the fourth time in their history. His 50th game in charge was the 2-2 draw with Chelsea in April. Nine goals were scored by substitutes this season with Luis Suarez scoring three of them. Liverpool scored 71 league goals this season, the most the Reds had netted in the last 12 Premiership campaigns and their joint-second highest tally in the Premier League era. Rodgers has signed seven players during his first year at the club - Fabio Borini, Joe Allen, Oussama Assaidi, Nuri Sahin, Samed Yesil, Daniel Sturridge and Philippe Coutinho. The Reds revealed earlier this week a deal has been agreed in principle for the transfer of Kolo Toure. {LINK} - - - - - - - - Shanks or Woy...which side of the coin will he turn out to be I thought these ones were of particular interest
I like his signings so far, I hope we get a couple more in this Summer that have the kind of influence that Sturridge and Coutinho have had. This is the way I see his signings. (Some may disagree) Fabio Borini - Hard working and will get better with a full injury free season Joe Allen - A good technical player but needs to improve but with age on his side one for the future. Oussama Assaidi - Never really given a chance but certainly a threat on the ball, if he can get some discipline in his game could be a good player. Nuri Sahin - A good player but didn't really want to graft and expected to play other than earning a place. Samed Yesil - One for the future great goal scoring record. Daniel Sturridge - Has surprised me, I knew he was direct and liked to shoot but he has shown that he has a brain and has held the ball up well and linked with his team. Philippe Coutinho - Don't need to say much, going to be World Class. Kolo Toure - Solid signing giving the squad more depth.
With regards to his signings.. Fabio Borini, you/we honestly can't appraise his season with us, he's been injured for most of it, lets not do a "Lucas" and right him off too soon! Joe Allen, his problem was we (Rodgers) hasn't been able to find him "his" place in team, I think a bit like Henderson, the boy will come good! Oussama Assaidi, apparently wasn't his signing... Nuri Sahin, from the sounds of it was a pre-madonna and wanted to play in his position and nothing else, loan signing so no real loss! Samed Yesil, one for the future... Daniel Sturridge and Philippe Coutinho both hits! Toure bought in for cover on a free and hopefully sensible wages, whats not to like about that?
Win % Shanks 49.31 Paisley 57.57 ***an 53.44 Dalglish 54.58 Souness 41.40 Evans 50.41 Houllier 52.12 Benitez 56.29 Hodgson 41.94 Rodgers 46.30
In or a logical order: Paisley 57.57 Benitez 56.29 Dalglish 54.58 ***an 53.44 Houllier 52.12 Evans 50.41 Shanks 49.31 Rodgers 46.30 Hodgson 41.94 Souness 41.40 Anyone willing to expand on this and look at the time periods they were in charge and compare it to the strength of squad left etc...?
Pretty sure Rodgers has a better first season win percentage than Rafa or Kenny (second era) which would be the only sensible statistic of this type worth comparing. But MFG wouldn't point that out would he.
There are bound to be comparisons at this point but if he goes on to make a name for himself we will all be happy.
Quite proud of the fact that that, there, is every single one of our Managers since 1959, and if it wasn't for the meltdown and near bankruptcy under H&G, I think you could take 2 more of that list. Were on our 10th Manager in over 50 years, so averages around 5 years per Manager which is quite good and would be even better if not for the incompetents giving the Owl faced one a job, which also led to Kenny having to come back. I hope it stays about this rate for the next 50 years. I wonder how that compares to other clubs for the last 50 years??
