This summer looks set to be a tumultuous one for Queens Park Rangers as the club gets set for a mass exodus after their relegation from the Premier League.

Mark Hughes left Harry Redknapp with an almost thankless task after an abysmal start to the campaign that belied the amount of talent that arrived at Loftus Road in the summer of 2012.




And despite adding players like Andros Townsend, Christopher Samba and Loic Remy in January Redknapp could not turn it round in time.

Now Tony Fernandes has admitted that the club will have to look at trimming down the wage bill and squad size.

Julio Cesar looks like being the first to go with Arsenal loitering while Loic Remy is not expected to hang around. Adel Taarabt is also linked with a departure while hope of holding on to Samba is higher than expected.

And now it seems another one of Hughes men could be on his way.

Spanish midfielder Esteban Granero cost the club £8.5 million from Real Madrid last summer and despite demonstrating a reasonable set-piece delivery he struggled to keep with the pace of the Premier League.

He confirmed in May that he had no intention of playing in the Championship next season stating:

“Now I do not plan to play in the second tier because I think it is not the place for me. I mean that in the most humble way but it’s how I feel. We will see what happens. The Premier experience has been very good and I would love to play here more. It will be a summer with little stability. We will see what is best for all. For me, the most important thing is football. I’ve never given priority to economic issues or other things.”

Now it seems there is more concrete interest in the player along with the rumoured overtures of Real Betis and Fiorentina - from Russia.

The 25-year-old has been linked in Russian paper Izvestia with a move to Russian outfit Rubin Kazan.

The report claims they see Granero as the perfect replacement for Roman Eremenko - who is on his way to Schalke 04 this summer.

He may be tempted into the move by the presence of countrymen Cesar Navas and Ivan Marcano already at the club; as well as fellow Hispanophone’s Salamon Rondon and Cristian Ansaldi.

With Rubin apparently ready to offer the original price QPR paid for him; this may be the first of many to leave White City this summer in the QPR exodus

 

I wonder if we could sell the whole bloody team to the Russian outfit.

Offer them Taarabt, Remy, Samba, Diakite, Mbia, Hoillett, SWP, Bosingwa, Granero, Barton, Ferdinand, Traore and Zamora for £75m and be done with it.

Quite honestly we never really ever looked like accomplishing this task. We missed out on staying up by a country mile and fully deserved to be relegated.

 

I think if we had beaten Villa we would have done it but they fell away badly after that.

 

I agree. If Botswana had put us 2 up on 40 mins when Villa looked impotent, we'd have won the game and all the momentum would have been with us. Within 5 mins they had equalised and it was all over......
