Bellamy is expressing his opinion and you're shouting it down. Forgive me if I am wrong but I have, in the recent past, seen the exact same comparisons from you guys.
By shouting him down you are actually saying the same as Bellamy, so in our eyes we'd see you as deluded. All about opinions but I do not think either of our teams can be compared with Barca in the near future, in 10-15 years time after continuous success then maybe. Let's wait and see.

The comparison we have with Barca is only the style of football which is fact! Bellend on the other hand is claiming you are gonna be one of the biggest clubs in the world! Come on you haven't even kicked a ball in the premier league yet.

Swan, okay in simple terms. You're shouting down Bellamy for airing his opinion that Cardiff is or has the potential to be a bigger club. That is shouted down as being deluded. Then go on to state Swansea are bigger than Cardiff.
Sold our identity, um, no. Changed the home strip yes but hardly selling our identity.

I think your catchment area is bigger than swansea but! I don't see you ever being a big club like Barcelona.

Hmm, read through the article and I might have missed something - yes he says they could be like Barcelona but I didn't see the Swans comparison anywhere but the title.

The idea of comparing with Barca is an over-simplification - OK Cardiff gets as much financial support from the assembly as their accountants can justify, but it would never compare to the state sponsored support that Real and Barca get. Plus those two clubs are quite so dominant becuase of a completely different structure to their TV deals. It's set up in such a way that no one else could possibly compete. In comparison the Prem offers a FAR fairer split, meaning that more different teams can compete (at least within their mini-leagues).

Size isn't everything but I look at the league and I think about what teams we could really compete with. Think about how long and how much money Spurs have spent chasing that 4th place. All their history, their London catchment, their excellent players and they still came fifth.

As fans we can all dream - what's the point of doing a Stoke and always say that our ambitions are to stay up? It breeds a rather dour club - but reality has to kick in some time. Liverpool have spent heavily, they have had players of the calibre of Gerrard, Suarez etc, but didn't even break the top six.

It is sensible to look at other clubs for a template as to how to make the most of what you have, but they must consider all the elements that go to make the club successful. Another example, re: Barca as a "national team" - how many of their players are Catalan? How many Cardiff players (or indeed Swans) are actually Welsh?

It is a silly argument - but if you can't big yourself up and get over-excited when you get to the prem, then I'm not sure when you can. Would you really want your players/management to say "we'll prob to a West Brom/Crystal Palace in the 90s and bounce back and forth a few years and, if we try really hard maybe, just maybe, we might stay up for a few years at a time"?

Now's the time for them to get excited - and, as a newly promoted club, you have to get your fans excited and behind you. That's not gonna happen by being pragmatic.

Good luck to them. I'll chip in too, for the sake supporting our Welsh brothers: Whittingham for England!

Maybe I got it wrong....but I thought he was simply saying that Cardiff could develop into a city team representing and/or getting support from a region....like Barca and Athletico do. it is almost a geographic thing than anything to do with football per se. He very much makes the point that he is the only Cardiff lad in the team/squad and that it should be different.

Depends on your personal feelings I suppose. I know that if a rich owner forced us to change colours and badge or he'd walk (as Tan did to Cardiff) I wouldn't be very happy at all. If the Swans went along with it I'd feel we'd sold our identity for sure. Then again I'd accept that many Swans fans would care "if we played in pink pyjamas" if it brought success. Btw a Cardiff poster actually said that.

    Not for me I'm afraid.

KJ, correct, all about personal opinions. We are still known as Cardiff City, that is our identity. playing in a new home strip is purely visual and we change our kit every time we play away.

We have to admit Cardiff are bigger than us in three ways:

    Bigger capacity stadium
    Bigger city
Bigger catchment area in South Wales

But that's where it ends, we are bigger globally, we attract bigger names, we are many fans second favourite team, we play better football, the list goes on!!

So lets not get all worked up over some simpletons words as we are and always will be the bigger and better football club in Wales :D

Premier league for the first time in their history and they still focus on THE MIGHTY SWANS <doh>. Poor bloobys, still blind to the ways of the world.

All bell-end has actually said is that Cardiff has a BIGGER CATCHMENT AREA than Swansea, and he's quite right.

Following his logic though means that Sheffield Wednesday, Sheffield Utd, Leeds Utd, Birmingham City, Hull City, Bristol City, Bristol Rovers, Fulham; the list goes on and on, are all bigger than Cardiff.

Susan Boyle is bigger than Ellie Goulding, Adelle is bigger than Beyonce but I know who scores for me.

Bell-end has proved the dim wittedness of the average blooby and his low IQ by confusing size and success.

Everyone in the football world knows in their heart that Swansea City is by far the more SUCCESSFULL football team of the two and that the Malaysian experiment is simply trying to follow in our wake.

Swim on bloobys, you've a long way to go.

Your right taffy, the colours Cardiff play in, who plays for them, who owns them etc. etc. means absolutely nothing to anyone outside of your little club. <ok>

Boneym, inciteful comments from you as always.
Stump, exactly so why are some of your fellow Swans so excited about Bellamys' book?

I suppose what gets up our noses is the implication that, somehow, Cardiff have a RIGHT to be regarded as the bigger club. As Stumpy, KDA and others have correctly pointed out, this is arrant rubbish.

We concede the size of the city; the catchment area; the stadium etc because those facts are irrefutable. But those factors taken in isolation have nothing whatsoever to do with the standing and credibility of a football club. Achievement is the only criteria on which any judgement should be based. Oh, and the bank balance and stability of the club. Stop and think about that.

In this context, Cardiff are lucky to come second. We are looking at our third successive stint at the top level. We have proved our credentials with our achievements and we did so playing a brand of football that has been lauded by pundits and spectators from all parts of the globe not to mention praise from the likes of Van Persie, Fabregas and many, many others.

We understand the excitement of playing at the highest level because it is what we achieved two seasons ago. But for Heaven's sake, try and be realistic about it. When we came up, our ambition was just to stay up. We didn't start bragging from the rooftops about how great we were going to be nor did we boast about teams we were going to finish above. We knew our place and took things quietly to see where that would take us. Quite far, as it transpired, as history has shown.

So, in football terms, Cardiff have a long way to go before emulating what we have achieved: and for God's sake stop trotting out this "capital city" bilge. Just remember that the likes of Millwall, Charlton and Brentford etc also play in a far, far, bigger capital than Cardiff. Fat lot of good it is to them.
