Evening all; 2 for me tomorrow- fairly short priced -but two singles and a double for me tomorrow; 14.45 Lingfield- Madeira Girl- 11/8 Interesting Jonjo sends one of his jumpers to Lingfield for a run- also Nicholls did have one declared but is now a non runner; Altho she was disappointing in a seller at Stratford lto reading her flat form over in Ireland this autumn, her handicap mark seems above the rest of the others. 19.25 Yarmouth- Pixilated - 13/8 Gay Kelleways runners always of interest to me- she is a very small trainer but has a fairly good strike rate- Pixilated seems to be running very well in some decent handicap company but always seems to find one too good to beat him- he likes to front run and if given a big enough lead he will be very hard to peg back- his sole victory came over C&D and he looks good to double that tomorrow,
Amanda has been having all sorts of back treatment since her car accident; heat treatment and massage today, osteopath last week, and a chiropractor as soon as she can have her XRay (too risky at present). So I'm drawn to Osteopathic Remedy in the 3.30 Ripon. Trouble is, although it acts on good to firm, it seems to have produced its best form on softer going. Also, the osteopath didn't help a great deal. Maybe that tells me to lay it. Not mush good at interpreting these signs.
In the 2.00 Ripon I think Zac Brown could go off at a decent price. Unfancied, beaten just 3¾L by Parbold on his début in a much higher class than this. "Took keen hold early, chased leaders, ridden along 2f out, gradually weakened (op 14/1 tchd 20/1)". The 4th in that race has since won £12k Class 2 race. Sired by Kodiac, a good source of early 2yos and by Danehill out of a Kris mare, Zac Brown is out of an Elusive Quality mare. Elusive Quality sired Ravens Pass, Elusive Kate, Sepoy etc. That début was on soft ground. Nearly all of Kodiac's progeny win on anything from good to soft to good to firm. This to me looks better form than that of the likely fav Searchlight.
Morning, troops. Hope everyone well. Pretty poor racing today but fret not, people, as its only 2 weeks until Royal Ascot commences. Hope everyone’s topper will be nicely buffed in time for Mr Henderson’s Lieutenant Miller in the opening day’s ‘Ascot Stakes’ – 8 months in the planning, 5 minutes in the execution! A ‘no bet’ one for me today but the eyecatching jock booking of the day has to be Nico De Boinville aboard Alan Swinbank’s The Ferick in the ‘lucky last’ at Hexham (8.40). The forum’s second favourite amateur (although he won’t be monikered as such for that much longer as he’ll turn pro in the not too distant future) goes all that way ‘oooooooooop North’ for just this sole ride. The key to The Ferick is the word ‘good’ or better in the old going descriptor and when this is the case his form reads -2213 but without it’s a poor -55706. Currently at Hexham it’s ‘Good To firm’ so expect The Ferick to leave recent form, on much softer going, a long, long, long way behind this eve. Good luck to all.
From the Sporting Life website: Former England captain David Gower has stoked the fires ahead of this summer's Ashes by describing Australia as a country with no culture and their cricketers of having an "animal mentality". Asked if England's long-standing rivalry with Australia was a clash of cultures, Gower told the Radio Times: "I'm tempted to say, how can you have a clash of cultures when you're playing against a country with no culture? That would almost be sledging. If you're on the boundary you have to be very, very thick-skinned, because the Aussie crowd will try you with absolutely anything. The trouble is, if they've had 10 cans of lager, their ability to come up with something akin to Oscar Wilde diminishes. A lot of it therefore tends to be very stereotypical. But it's feral; if they sense weakness, they'll come at you. It's the same with sledging on the field. There's a certain animal mentality, and if they sense a bit of weakness, they'll try it on more. The great thing is just to smile, because the smile completely confuses them. But the best way to keep an Australian bowler quiet is simply to make runs. If you're 120 not out, they tend not to say much." Where's Cyc when you need hm?
ya i think your right there about the form of Zac Brown but i think you could do Searchlight for a s F/C could pay 8/1 or a little more
Just like the old days on 606 - my bet of the day is in the 3-30 at ripon so now we have 3 selections in the same bloody race Mine is Ardmay - very impressive over the course and ditance last time out. Good luck everyone.
David Gower has really set the cat amongst the pigeons, Oddy, but the ones he's talking about are the archetypical bullies in our society. We have them too of course. I think Gower is referring to someone like Merv Hughes, for example; a genuine foul-mouthed bully but much-loved by Austalians in general. So what to do? Sorry, I find Gower's comments counterproductive and a bit silly, quite honestly. He's telling us nothing new, surely? Would add that some of my childhood idols were the likes of Don Bradman, Keith Miller, Ray Lindwall, et al. Nowt wrong with that; they were superb cricketers, great guys, and a credit to their country. The arrival of the disgusting thing called 'sledging', changed things a bit.............
I do find it a bit rich that Mr Gower has taken to slagging off the aussie crowd. He clearly has never had the misfortune to be sat among the Barmy Army for a day. Some of them are fine but an awful lot use the excuse of being at the cricket to act like a bunch of mindless cretins and go out of their way to ruin everyone else's enjoyment through chanting the most brain dead nonsense imaginable. I first started watching during the era of Lilley, Thompson and co. Whilst there were plenty of villains to choose from (though i must say I loved Thommo having met him when I was a young lad, he played for Middlesex and was charm personified) I still believe Ian Chappell was one of the most objectionable men ever to take the field in any sport never mind just cricket.
Do these Qatari chaps buy anything and everything that they see which has got 4 legs and a tail?!? Joaan Al Thani has just purchased the ‘French 2,000 Guineas’ winner Style Vendome. Meanwhile, I see that the BHA have rated old boy Ruler of the World as the lowest Derby winner this century (based on the rating given immediately after the heat). He’s perched on 120.
Oddy: Please note. Now I know why my Deutsch is so scheià . Years ago, I tried so hard to change the language and put verbs in their proper place in a sentence, but to no avail. Duden wanted me deported to somewhere like the Falklands, but the Human Rights people saved honourable ass................. "The German language has lost its longest word thanks to a change in the law to conform with EU regulations. Rindfleischetikettierungsueberwachungsaufgabenuebertragungsgesetz - meaning "law delegating beef label monitoring" - was introduced in 1999 in the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania."
Anyone having any problems accessing the site, no forums displayed on the home page is of major concern to me. Shearian catches my eye for the voluptuous Tracy Waggott, been in the mix as of late and can see him being there or thereabouts for his new yard. 10s is more than fair
Money coming for that Zac Brown 7/2 accross the board now, some 6/1 around earlier, i'm on at 9/2 in a double with Bob's Her Uncle in the race after.
