U19s impress in Dutch tournament . . . plenty of positives as young Swans reach final Academy Manager Tony Pennock has branded Swans Under-19s’ involvement in a Youth tournament in Holland as a huge success. The young Swans took on hosts ADO Den Haag, Legia Warsaw and Mexico in the group stage before beating Slovakian outfit Senica in the semi-finals. Only a penalty shootout would deny Pennock’s youngsters glory at the tournament, with Mexico taking the honours. But Pennock believes the short trip to South Holland will prove hugely beneficial to both the squad and coaching staff as they look to continue their fine work next season. “From a coaching perspective, it was great to see the boys spending time in a different environment and assessing how they adapted to playing against very different opposition,” said Pennock. “Senica, for example, were a very big team and they could give a lot of teams problems, but we managed to deal with their threat and impose our own qualities on the game. “The games were only 25 minutes a half, but they gave us a different challenge each time, and for the players themselves that is a great experience. They will certainly benefit from that. “The way we grew into the tournament was pleasing, and the fact we managed three clean sheets from four games on the way to the final was very satisfying. “We lost the final on penalties, but, when we look at the tournament overall, the signs were very encouraging. “We have to build on the good work we put in that tournament when we start pre-season training next month, because that will really allow us to push on as a group.” Under-19 squad: Oliver Davies, Scott Tancock, Liam Shephard, Sam Evans, Alex Bray, Lewis Moore, Connor Peters, Connor Roberts, Corey Francis, Thomas Atyeo, Luke Llewellyn, Joseph Jones, Alex Samuel, Kurtis March, Henry Jones, Kenji Gorre, Gwion Edwards, James Loveridge. Been following their progress for a number of years and i have to say pennock has got the youth playing some good football....If anyone wants to see them then they have been playing at ST hellens and entrance is free...
