Not quite but the ranking system is very poor. We all know Brazil are not the 19th best team. They are not one of the best teams on all known recent evidence but I'd struggle to believe there are 18 better teams! They are not the best defensive unit in the world mind I still think our two results against them were good results because they will be a top 10 side.
You have to have some system though, you cant have someone saying it must be Brazil for 2nd because well they are Brazil. The silly thing about it for me is, you would get more points for beating Croatia/Columbia in the World Cup than you would Italy or Brazil. You also get more points in a qualifying year than a world cup/european cup year (or at least spain did), and this is average points over the course of a whole calander year. 2010 692.3 (World Cup year, Won it) 2011 1051.92 2012 497 (UEFA Euro year, Won it) 2013 835 so far. and that is total average points, without the weight being taken off which is 2010 20% 138.46 2011 30% 315.58 2012 50% 248.71 2013 100% 835.36 Total........1538 = #1 in the world It must be because to the run up to championships, you play friendlies against **** teams, then its only 6 games to win the final, then you play friendlies against **** teams again, until the qualifiers start for the next one, where you get the bonus but may play 10 + qualifiers so get more points, esp if you have decent teams in your group.
If you think I'm gonna attempt to get inside the heads of a batch of useless ****s employed by that crook Blatter, no chance! I think people get a bit hung up with this rankings thing to be honest. Not everyone agrees so there is no perfect system. The other problem is form and the cyclical nature of squad building. If a team decides to build a long term project their form will probably suffer as their young players learn, they make alterations with regards to personnel and they tinker to find a defined way of playing. Its the same in most sports, rankings are pretty useless because there are too many variables. The rankings are good for nothing except stimulating a bit of heated discussion amongst fans.
