This link just seems to keep resurfacing.
He's the type I would live to see come in.

Newcastle were heavily linked with 24 year-old Dutch play-maker Siem de Jong in January, and he’s the older brother of last summer’s Newcastle striker target – Luuk de Jong – who finally joined German club Borussia Monchengladbach.

Siem started his career with De Graafschap in Doetinchem, and in 2005, at the age of 16, he joined the famous Ajax youth academy.

He made his first team debut, coming on as a substitute, in September of 2007 against Kozakken Boys when he was 18, and since that time he has become the captain at Ajax and has 213 appearances with 69 goals for the Dutch powerhouse.

Newcastle are short of goalscorers right now, so a player who can score goals from midfield or as a second striker, would seem to be a decent buy for Newcastle this summer – with the fee said to be around £9M.

The news in January was that Newcastle were talking to Ajax about the player, but he wasn’t necessarily available in January but could be available this summer.

On January 18th, this is what his agent Louis Laros had to say:

“There has been a lot of interest in Siem but at the moment he is the captain of Ajax, and he is happy at Ajax.” “I expect he will stay until the end of the season. But you never know.”

In January it was reported that Newcastle were doing some early transfer negotiations, that would see the Ajax captain move to Newcastle this summer, and that’s still a possibility.

And since this lad can score goals, he would be a good buy, especially when some of our striker targets this summer could be out of reach, for one reason or another.

Siem has played for all the Dutch Youth sides, and a couple of times for the full National side, and last season he scored 16 goals in 47 appearances for the Dutch Champions.

He said he is only willing to join a club which has a philosophy of entertaining football, certainly rules us out.

If we do decide to go for him I hope he doesn't speak to Anita before signing as I don't think he'll sign if he does.

Another I'd love to see but I think he will have better options than us and wouldn't really fancy it. We have to accept we are not the attraction we were last summer.

But we should be because we don't have Europe next season and Pardew celebrated that as a success at the end of the season <ok>

The summer before that we weren't particularly attractive and we managed to sign Cabaye and co. Can't have been that attractive in January either (relegation dogfight outweighing half a Europa League campaign) and we managed to do ok. Think we could pull something out of the bag with some decent, exciting signings if Ashley and Llambias are ambitious enough. That's the big if. We'll just have to wait and see.

Would be nice to make a quick move this summer on transfer targets at least then we will know one way or another if they want to play on Tyneside.
