Sunderland have joined the queue of clubs monitoring Romelu Lukakuâs situation at Chelsea. The powerhouse Belgian striker is one of the hottest properties in the Premier League after scoring 17 goals while on loan at West Bromwich Albion last season. Lukaku is keen to stay at Stamford Bridge but realises that he is unlikely to play regular first-team football there â at least in the short-term, as Chelseaâs big-money frontmen Fernando Torres and Demba Ba are ahead of him in the pecking order. Chelsea have no intention of selling Lukaku, who they signed from Anderlecht two years ago in a deal that could be worth up to £17m with add-ons. And that means he is likely to be sent out on loan once again next season. But no final decision will be taken until Chelsea appoint a new manager, with outgoing Real Madrid chief Jose Mourinho the hot favourite to return for a second stint in charge of the Blues. If Chelsea cannot promise Lukaku the opportunities he wants, there will no shortage of suitors. Sunderland head coach Paolo Di Canio is an admirer and would love to bring Lukaku to Wearside, but is likely to face stiff competition to land Lukaku. Among those chasing the striker are German Bundesliga runners-up Dortmund â who could tempt Lukaku with the prospect of Champions League football. But if Lukaku decides to stay in the Premier League, Sunderland could be an option. The Black Catsâ squad needs a major overhaul if they are to avoid a repeat of last seasonâs relegation battle, and Di Canio has made no secret of his desire to bring in more quality. So far the Wearsiders have concentrated their efforts on scouring Europe for the best Bosman deals. They are understood to have lined up deals for three players who are out of contract at the end of this month, with Cape Verde-born Swiss midfielder Cabral and French defenders Valentin Roberge and Modibo Diakite due to join on July 1. Cabral currently plays in Switzerland for Basel, while Roberge plays for Portuguese side Maritimo and Diakite is at Italian Serie A side Lazio. The Black Cats have also added young Altrincham striker Duncan Watmore to their development squad.
Your right maybe a loan although I don't like loans when they play well they just build your hopes up and we then can't afford to buy them
Class player. If true tho where would that leave Fletch. My personal opinion is with an injury free season AND an attack minded team Fletch could get the 20 goals a season. How many times have we loaned players only to lose them at the end of the season. Welbeck, Evans, Rose?. Then its on the lookout again and rebuilding. Unless we could get him permanently (highly unlikely) unsure on this one. Unless of course Fletchers injury is worse than we know about.
He's a fantastic player who if I was Chelsea manager would be ahead of Demba Ba in the pecking order. Loan or permanent deal, I don't care as long as we can get him for next season. One can but dream!
I know I tend to look on the negative side first in most things but unfortunately I can't find anything negative to say about this so please yes from me.
The Sunday sun says that P O D may be interested, and I would pay £17 m now for him or take him on loan.
I hope he doesn't have bad feelings about our club after that nob jockey made a monkey gesture to him !
Not sure I could agree about Ba but Torres certainly. I rate Ba as a top class striker and him and Lukaku would be awesome, which is why I feel Chelsea would be foolish to let him go. He has had his 1 season on loan and scored a hat full of goals and I think Mourinho will see him as the new Drogba to play that style of football he likes so much. If we could get him for £17m it would be a steal. The lad will double in value in 2 or 3 years imo at the rate he is going, or better still, be part of a resurgence at the club that may mean better times for us.
Really? Fernando Torres is Chelsea's top scorer this season with 23 goals. I agree about the comparisons with Drogba and that Mourinho will love him, but Chelsea do have plenty of attacking options, so Lukaku may have to be content with a fair bit of bench warming this coming season if he stays at Chelsea.
Not sure if you mean to buy but if he's available to loan we should defo be in with a shout as his wages weren't too high for WBA to manage.
