The rumor is that the australian club keep increasing their bid for Holty so it is making the Hooper deal more attractive as his fee would pay over half than what we would need for Hooper. It depends on Holty really, does he want to go to Oz? The thing you have to remember is that Holty has only earned good money in the last 3-4 years so he may be up for it to set up his retirement. We will see, but as far as I know the bid from the Australian club is going up and up. They are serious about it and do not want to let it drop.
Well it is hardly surprising that a striker is going to cost more than other players would do. I doubt Hughton will be content with just buying 'squad players' though.
Most of his budget is for Hooper, yet were meant to have a very healthy 20+mil to spend. How much does he think Hooper will cost? I think this is bull personally!
I'm sure we're not alone in thinking this!!! RvW was paid for out of this season's budget and our league position put another £3M in the kitty. Can't see Hooper costing more than £4M-5M, so by my reckoning, should leave £25M+ to spend
I think a lot of journalists aren't aware of the difference in our financial situation between last summer and this one. If Nursey is expecting our budget to be similar to last years, then Hooper at ~£5m would probably be a big chunk. However, if we've got £20m+ still to spend, which I think is certainly possible, then we could still see 2,3 or even 4 other very decent first team players coming in. Someone said recently that a business based in the Jarrold had been given 12 months to leave, and something else also suggested that we're planning significant building work for next summer. As such, the only reason I can really see the budget being reduced is if the expansion work is coming entirely out of this summers transfer budget. On Holt, I still think £2m is cheap for him, but a strikeforce of Hooper, RvW and Becchio looks a lot better than this seasons. Having said that, I'd still rather we had 4 strikers on the books, so I'd rather we kept Holt too.
Sounds like toilet from nursery, we know ch wants to build a team and should be given a decent budget this season coming
Think we should keep Holt as if Wolfie is a flop we will need a tried plan b and if Wolfie us as success we will struggle to keep him at Xmas and still will need the back up
The paper is rehashing a story that's been lurking for ages. I follow TNC, they only report things from other sources ie papers and respected journos and Twitter accounts.
New twitter rumour of a bid of £1M for Albert Adomah rejected. Recently relegated, not a bad squad player to have on the cheap. Rapid winger.
Letting Holt go would be suicide without getting another Premier League striker in. In RVW, Becchio and Hooper we'd have three strikers with no Premier League goals between them. Think of Holt what you will, but in two years he's scored 23 PL goals and in my book that makes him worth keeping.
Not sure I like us being linked to a lot of 'squad' players. Perhaps the signing of RvW has set my sights a little high, but I'd like to think the vast majority of our summer signings will be as strong as our current first XI, or an improvement. Not sure Adomah is either of those things.
I would like us to keep GH. IMO, he'd be invaluable to at least have as an 'impact sub' to bring on with say 15 - 30 minutes to go when we need a goal.
