It's due to the stupid points system. They award more points for competitive matches, but Brazil haven't played a competitive match since 2011. According to FIFA, Greece are better than Brazil.
They are decent, but listening to them talk they still think there the greatest in the world , I agree that they are arrogant and overrated and not a shadow of there glory teams... Don't usually care for friendlies but hope we turn them over
They aren't doing very well at the moment. They haven't won a single 2014 WC qualifier yet - I wouldn't be surprised if they don't qualify.
I'd be surprised if they don't field a weakened team their domestic league has just started and is being played this weekend, also they don't play qualifiers, the host is automatically granted qualification.
It was ironic, somebody on here a while back (who I think was a Soppy Bollocks nominee/winner) was of the belief that Brazil wouldn't qualify for their own world cup if they continued playing the way they are. They do of course qualify automatically as hosts.
They might be overrated and in poor form, but still light years ahead of England in terms of quality.
This does at least go some way to justifying making the host nations top seeds by default. I've always said that the host nations should be given automatic qualification, and given all their fixtures in their preferred venue(s), but that the pots for different seedings should be determined by the rankings after qualification. The fact Brazil have fallen so far due to not playing a competitive game though shows it would handicap the host nations as when a top nation hosts they'd probably end up in a group with what should be another top seed, they might even end up dropping from the bottom of the top seeds to being a 3rd seed, which could be the difference between playing Italy or Japan.
Current top 10: 1. Spain 2. Germany 3. Argentina 4. Croatia 5. Portugal 6. Colombia 7. England 8. Italy 9. Netherlands 10. Ecuador It is updated on 6th June, though.
