First we have no idea if Laudrup has an issue at all because the all important quotes do not exist, all we have is the South Wales Evening Post fueling speculation and this is the same newspaper that is directly responsible for the first Measle's outbreak in the western world in decades after their disastrously irresponsible decision to convince the South Wales population that the MMR vaccine was dangerous. If however there is something going on behind the scenes, something which the SWEP would have no access to regardless of a press office being located in the Liberty Stadium, the Swansea's transfer budget this season should be enough to compete with a few clubs positioned above us in the UEFA rankings. For the 2011/2012 season the finances looked like so: Turnover: £65,000,000 Football income including TV Money - £61,000,000 Commercial - £4,000,000 Wage Bill: £35,000,000 Proportion of Turnover: 54% Profit before Tax: £17,000,000 Net Debt: Nil That's a good start after our first season in the Premier League but that was nothing compared to what was coming the next year. For the 2012/2013 season the finances looks like this so far: Turnover: £111,000,000 Commercial - £28,500,000** Player Sales - £35,500,000 TV Money - £47,600,000 **Commercial revenue does not include second half of 2012/2013 income Our income has all but doubled and we have only seen the first six months of the commercial revenue figures, even if our player wages doubled after the first season in the Premier League then our profit would also have doubled, but we are very safe to say that didn't happen because our core players are on similar terms to last year, some players left who were some of our highest earners that mitigated for the new arrivals, our wage bill did increase but not from £35,000,000 to anywhere near £70,000,000. So our profits are much, much, much bigger than last season and back then we were 17 million in the good. Now next season we have a brand new TV Deal with BT firing a warning shot across Sky's bow and the TV money is expected to double, we are a club that wants to stay in profit for obvious reasons but this season our budget could be £35,000,000 and we would probably still make a profit by May 2014. With four battlefronts headed our way next season that amount of cash would come in very handy and we would still be FFP friendly. I think there are many players we think are beyond our payscale but I am not so sure about that after you look at the confirmed numbers thus far, and then take into account what is coming next season.
Thanks for posting , interesting figures you've quoted there but we need also to plan for dare I say it a return to the Championship, I'm not being negative but we need to grow at a pace which reflects the size of the club and a couple of seasons consolidating our PL status I believe should be our priority. No one imagined that after our second season we would be playing European football but we are so lets give our best shot but hopefully not at the expense of the league
Excellent post - admire what your club has achieved. Your statement in your opening paragraph makes my point ... why except anything the papers say?
There's a fine line between being prudent and being foolish. I have faith in the Board because their track record is very good, but I do worry that they may be almost obsessed with running a tight ship. I fully understand if they are, bearing in mind our recent history, but we have to think a little bigger now we're in with the big boys. Now I don't know if I'm way off the mark but I see parallels with Arsenal and Wenger. At times he was almost on a mission to prove a point that they could get CL without spending big (comparitively speaking), despite the fact they had more than enough money in the pot. In the end it worked out for them, but only just. We can only hope that Laudrup convinces the Board that we have to spend some of this money, even if we want to stand still. Our Club shouldn't be in the business of amassing profit for profit's sake. It's great to be in the black, and long may that continue, but when we earn bigger we should be spending bigger. If at the end of next season we're half a mil in the black I'll be chuffed. I think that's what the OP means by this thread.
How much does the expansion of the Liberty cost, the new training ground and there are likely to be other big investments in facilities and staff that I dont know of. There are wages to be paid outside of the playing squad aswell. I for one will be very surprised if Swansea spends net. figures like £35 mill on players this summer.
Finances at the club look great, but I was just wondering where you found these figures? Because it was my understanding that our profits in the first season were £14.6 million and that included the compensation deal for Rodgers. We also announced a profit of £15.9 million in the six months up to the end of November which included all player sales and compensation. Due to the fact only Graham was sold after November it makes me think that maybe our profits for this season wouldn't be a huge deal more than last season considering the increase in wage bill with so many of our players signing new contracts. I hope you're right because we need the money now more than ever with the added pressure of Europa League football, but my guess is that the increase in profit for this season won't be enough to cover a huge budget. Maybe £20 million if were lucky. Isn't it great though that our club can produce such a budget without going into debt!
The club is acting like we have the right to stay in the premiership by spending little money.....Laudrup said when he came here he would see how things go and will only sign a short term contract...well jinx has persuaded laudrup to sign a one year extension by promises laudrup has asked for before he would sign.....Now you have to live on another planet not to notice laudrups concerns in the press and anyone you talk to that all is not well between laudrup and the club, to think otherwise is just turning a blind eye and hoping its not true.......well each to their own but from what i have found out then all is not well and more than just money also and Laudrup wants a meeting once and for all to sort things out and until that meeting takes place then we wont know whats happening....he wants to stay but he needs the help and commitment from the club to do his job, If he dont get at least a fair compromise then what is the point of him being here......Lets hope the meeting goes well as its the clubs future at stake at the end of the day....
