If Chezzy has a good season next and ups his distribution skills, does anyone see him being mentioned in dispatches for National recognition? Before that idea is written off out of hand, perhaps because of who he plays for, it's worth remembering Mike Turner came pretty close before he moved to Slumberland, which in my view ruined him. Also, I think England at the moment are VERY poorly off for central defenders and there is definitely a void there waiting to be filled. My view is that if Chezzy develops quickly this season, I can see no reason why he couldn't be there or there a outs, maybe not in time for Brazil, but once England fail once more next Summer they may well seek a new direction.
Depends. If he performs like last season the no chance, if like the season before last then yes there's a chance.
Chester wasn't bad last season at all. He and Hobbs were by far our best defenders just as they were the season before. People just stopped appreciating Chester because he's been doing it so well for so long now, and it became cooler to go on about McShane, and latterly Faye.
If Shawcross can get a cap for England there's certainly no reason Chester can't, although I do think it's unlikely whilst he's with us.
When you see players like Joleon Lescott regularly turning out for England you realise anything can happen!!
I think he might be too small for people that don't watch him every week to appreciate. People will look at his height and assume that he is going to be beaten in the air and be weak on the ball.
That was why I mentioned it might not happen until England decide to change direction before he is considered!
The man has been our best defender since he arrived nearly 3 years ago. I personally don't see him getting an England cap, but, like previously said, if players like Ryan Shawcross, Martin Kelly and Matthew Upson can get a call up, then Chezzy can.
No chance, he's rubbish remember? If he has a good season and we stay up he won't be far away, centre back is where England are weakest and Chezzy is a quality player.
Yes, it's unfair to hang some kind of label on someone based on one game. That Bolton game came out of the blue, it was a weird 10 minutes the like of which we had not seen before since relegation and we have not seen since.
He's going to be a central defender that's playing in a team that's probably going to finish in the bottom quarter of the league and probably be in the top 5 for goals conceded. Can't see it happening if I'm honest, lets not get our hopes up and then cry about it when he doesn't get a call up.
We went 3-0 down in 10 minutes, which was by all accounts down to piss-poor defending by all concerned. You're not telling me that that game means he's not as good as last year? I can't see it happening really, just because there's a **** load of competition. I know England's first choice CBs are as weak as they have been for a few years, but the depth in that position is impressive. He'd have to overtake Cahill, Lescott, Jagielka, Jones, Smalling, Dawson, Ferdinand and probably even Taylor in the pecking order.
I admit I've lost track of his activities, didn't he get called up again at some point? Or did he kick off and reject it or something?
Chester may be more mobile than Turner and a better future prospect ,but neither are(or in Turner's case WERE)International quality.
Chester may develop into an international possibility, but I think his slight lack of height might just go against him as a centre back.
