£8m and £40k a week, I just can't see it. The three strikes we know we're looking at would be half that, or less and on lower wages.
Which is why I said CI were STRANGELY confident. I assume your "3 strikers" are Odemwingie, Austin and Hooper?
How many goals can he fit in his car or is it one of those pop up goals from argos that when folded fits neatly in his boot?
Judging by previous form expect us to sign someone else, CI hurriedly put together a story on it at the very second the official news breaks and then claim it was their exclusive all along.
I'm in two minds about this one also. The club have come out and said that we will not be paying big money for players, yet there is plenty of speculation in the Rhodes link. All be it £8million isn't big money nowadays in football, it would seem to be out of our price range. Although CI do state that the fee will be closeto £8million AFTER ADD ONS, whether that has legs or not I dont know. £8million Rhodes, & 30+ goals later and he still the same price if not less? it doesnt make sense. Does it?
I think Austin is defo the most likely. Last year of his deal, Burnley seem keen to cash in rather than let him go for free next summer, he wants to move and we have no obvious competitor. The only question was 'are we interested' and as it seems we are I expect him to come here.
I'm sure we will be interested, as many others will be. Same with Rhodes, its a gamble as they've never played in the Premier League. Both goalscorers, both in-experienced, ones cheaper then the other, which do you go for? Austin all day long. Yet, we are more linked with Rhodes.
If Rhodes does happen I expect it to be deadline day. Whilst I think we will be tight on expenditure, I think the low budget and won't overpay statements are as much a deterrent to clubs trying to hold us to ransom and not let it seem like we have a bottomless bank. But I do think there may well be a flash marquee signing and that could be Rhodes, but if we go and shell out millions on Rhodes in fee and wages, other clubs and players will turn round and say "you can afford to pay him that so you can pay us what we want or sod off".
I would rather we went for Austin (3m plus add-ons) and Hooper (4m plus add-ons). That as a front two with Aluko in behind would boost my confidence no end for next season.
That's a good point about signing high wage players late in the window, another benefit of that is that we save 250 grand in the couple of months that the other club is paying the wages instead of us
Id rather buy Hooper and Austin for £8million combined with add ons, than buy Rhodes for the same amount. We need to buy 2 quality strikers so that we arent pinning all of our hopes on 1, which would make us less prone to a sudden loss in goals if one of the strikers gets injured/suspended.
Possibly because he is a good player that has a goal-to-game record in the Prem of just under 1 in 3?
rosenior - be gentle on the poor lamb, he's still hurting along with a large group on the Leicester board who spent all season slagging off our German striker (you all know I'm rubbish at spelling - Can't we have a team full of Smiths, Joneses, Le Blancs and easy names from abroad to spell) only to see him score one of the 2 goals which took us up. Also I am in agreement with his question, I really don't want Peter at the club - his attitude stinks, and we all remember players in the past who have caused trouble at the club.
