But would you think the same of the two guys that killed the soldier? By killing them, you would be granting their wishes of martyrdom. There is no way on Earth I would like that to happen. Let em rot in jail for the rest of their lives.
If you sent them back to their own country for sentencing, they would die a horrible slow death and beleive me, they wouldn't be Martyres either.
Put them in the stocks and let the public throw rotten veg etc at them, then let them survive in solitary confinement on bread and water. Rapists and nonces should have their genitatia removed and fitted with a bag, if they are to be released they should be branded accross the face. Terrorists should be swilled with pigs blood at the first opportunity, that would piss allah off!
Terrorists should be swilled with pigs blood, buried face down facing away from Mecca. That would piss them all off. no virgins & sherbet for them.
no, for two reasons ... courts are fallible, they are not scientific, they are swayed by the press, manipulated by devious, bribed officials, admit evidence that is not as rigorous as you may think and base a result on one team or the others ability to convince twelve reasonable people. the conclusions are no where near as strong as peer reviewed science for example and where a life is at stake they need to be. secondly, it's just an act of revenge. what we really need to do in cases such as Huntley / Bridger etc. is work out what the **** went wrong so we can stop the next person who is heading that way before they do anything nasty. what use are they to us if they are dead ? i feel these extreme individuals are very much of use to us being kept alive and very closely observed and studied !
A very valid point that I have never considered before. I would like to think that criminal behavioural science is at work as we speak.
Aye, this has been an excellent debate over a very emotive subject without any name-calling. Good stuff! I did a little Google search earlier this evening "miscarriage of justice UK" and the amount of prisoners who were found guilty of murder, and later acquitted, and in recent years, is horrifying. Of course Bridger DOES deserve the death penalty but once you go down that road innocent people are going to be executed too. I also don't go along with "DNA is infallible" - well it might be, but the cops/prosecution are not. A corrupt cop could plant DNA. But more likely is the scenario where contaminated DNA MIGHT point to someone and then confirmation bias steps in and the prosection railroad it and say it does point to someone. Anyway, let's hope that Bridger lives to 130 and has a ****ty, horrible, threatened existence during every day of his life.
I too have found this debate extremely interesting but would like to ask if any one has first hand knowledge of the effect that killing/murder has on the family of the victim? In that particular case the act was deliberately done by a person who had a history of violence but had been "rehabilitated". My reaction then was as it is now. They did not belong in a decent society.
If we did bring the death penalty back how would we do it? Hanging, lethal injection, firing squad, electric chair or inject them with the rabies virus & keep showing them films of nice flowing rivers?
People are saying let them live to have guilt at what they done, but most are sexual deviency to the extreme, its their ultimate fantasy what they ended up doing, instead of feeling guilty, its probably getting them through prison life as they get off on it every day (sick i know but they wouldnt have done it in the first place if it grossed them out. (like it would do for 99% of others)).
Precisely, the evidence shows that Bridger had meticulously planned out what he was going to do. Murdering her and attempting to cover his tracks was so he didnt get caught and could then do it again. His made up story also shows he has no remorse over what happened. Be interesting to see if his story would be different if the death penalty was on the table. Although im for the death penalty in extreme cases this like I do however think the Woolwich duo should be lifed. With Bridger he's one man and ending his life i think would bring closure to the victims family. Whereas if we executed the Woolwich pair it could cause more innocent people to die. Case by case basis
The whole crux of this matter revolves around what we did wrong in this country. We did not abide by what was in the law. We should have been sure, WITHOUT A SHADOW OF DOUBT, about a person's guilt. It was not abiding by this very, very simple guide that a lot of people were incorrectly hung. Our jails are hotels. Go to Saudi and see what a jail is!!! Yes, they are full but not many murderers in there!!! Those two who killed Lee and April's murderer and more, even as I write, can go to jail and come out with a masters degree in whatever they want. It's their civil right, y'know. Nonesense. I wonder if April was David Cameron's daughter how he would react. While these sort of crimes rarely touch the lawmakers, nothing will change.
