Very interesting resource and one that I pointed out to Tony Atwood in his blog about the existence of a club called Hotspur FC that predated the now THFC.

    http://www.spurshistory.com/pages/12.htm

In fact the other club were called Hotspur FC, not London Hotspur. They were formed in 1878 and played at Syon Park, Merton near Wimbledon, the home of Sir Henry Percy, the Duke of Northumberland and the man cited as the influence for Harry Hotspur' in the Shakespeare play, hence the the name Hotspur FC.

    <ok>

Ah its the stalker! clearly annoyed I didn't return to his crap thread after leaving one comment (better known as a worm!...float goes under and here he is!) to enlighten, above pester, sorry, poster was trotting this **** in usual gloat mode, so I reminded him of their umpteen name changes and discovered another attempt :D, clearly not happy with the one they've got, in the 1930's they tried again and considered London FC ffs! they decided against it on the grounds of not wanting to appear arrogant to other clubs! <laugh>

It's not crap though tots, it's simply a documented account of your history. Arsenal changed their name several times, Dial Square, Royal Arsenal, Woolwich Arsenal and then just Arsenal. All linked to the Royal Artillery at Woolwich Arsenal (in the news for sad reasons currently) Lots of clubs go through transitions in their early histories. Yours just happened to change their name because of the existence of the original Hotspur club that already existed before the cricket club formed that eventually became THFC.

    Who's Tony Atwood?

Also have you got any link to back up what you're saying? Not that I care a great deal but if the old book's wrong, the old book's wrong.

This is part of Piskie's ongoing obsession with Spurs and the lasting impact from his WUMing backfiring on old606 YV, so he's carried the baggage around til now.
He contacted a variety of people about it, including Arsenal bloggers and a Spurs historian, if my memory serves me correctly, but he he wasn't reeled in then and he isn't now... <whistle>
I've yet to see anything to concretely confirm the formation of the Hotspur Cricket Club though, so it's all rather tediously led to nowhere, unfortunately.
Given that Hotspur FC no longer exist and went out of business before clubs like Chelsea were even formed and Arsenal had chosen their name or crossed the river, I'm not even sure what his point is.
I'm not convinced that he does, either.

Did I miss something here? PISKIE, for once admittedly, has actually contributed something relevant and factful to the discussion, and is still getting his head bit off.
You guys seriously want him to find a link to prove that the other club were called Hotspur FC rather than London Hotspur? Do you really care?

    P.S PISKIE is still a numbnuts :)

PISKIE is transparent Bodanki. He goes too far and then thinks a couple of decent posts will repair his reputation.

Too late! we have his number.

He cared enough to correct it. I was just a bit curious, as I said I'm not that fussed.

Sounds like this is a crusade he's been going on about for awhile though, hence the irked comments.

Piskie's been banging on about us not being the first side to use Hotspur as part of our name for over 5 years now.
He freely admits to using it as a WUMing tool on old606 in these posts from 2 years ago:

    http://www.not606.com/showthread.ph...fficial-party)?p=453671&viewfull=1#post453671

It's just another example of highly disturbing obsessive behaviour, in my opinion.

Taken from mehstg "The club was formed by a group of cricketers in 1882 as Hotspur FC and the prefix Tottenham was adopted three years later to avoid confusion with a team called London Hotspur."

London Hotspur...I say again, that Dial Arsenal Royal Woolwich Square in the 1930's tried to change their name to London FC, how original!...and by the way, there is no record whatsoever of a competitive league game London Hotspur played, they were the latter day equivalent of a non-league pub side that disappeared in the following years. Therefore, Hotspur is an original 'league' name, and when we took the name we had no idea of the existance of the other, unlike the Goons who obviously knew of London Hotspur by the 1930's, but still attempted to 'copy' some of it...sad!

Ensil put up an e-mail ages ago from THFC's club historian, Porter I think his name was, so this is all well old news, duly dealt with...glad to clear that up for you.

The information was provided by Andy Porter, Spurs official historian. The existence of Hotspur FC is confirmed in Mike Collet's book 'The complete record of the FA cup'. They were formed in 1878 and competed in the FA cup between 1879 and 1888 reaching the 4th round in 1882.

It's a point of curio really. The official Spurs history has Tottenham Hotspur formed in 1882 and the cricket club they evolved from formed in 1880, so the earlier Hotspur FC were in existence before then. Just an interesting point about the history of your club, nothing more. The tetchy comments unfortunately have all come from spurs fans. I'm just illustrating some facts that people might find interesting <ok>

No you're not, you are just embarked on another mission to bore the life out of us.

Not usual for me, but in your case I'll make an exception: **** off back to your own board I'm sure they are all missing you.
