I dont think we should worry about Barton or Nolan or even Enrique just yet.

Rid dead wood (Kuqi and Sol gone)
New contracts for our future star (Ferguson new 5 year deal)
Buy 3-4 young new players (as pardew stated)

Run down Nolans, Bartons and Enrique contracts for another season let them pass on experience to the young kids, sammy, ferguson, Kazenga. Why pay huge agent fees out of our transfer budget? when to be honest our academy is beaming with talent - this is what Mike Ashely would be thinking as i would to! If Barton, Nolan, Enrique are willing to do this once they see we are spending money on new talent i think they will stay for another season its only the press making out we "dont want to give them new deals"

Very much reminds me of arsenal - building a good foundation and not paying huge amounts of money to build. Now that all sounds good to me.

    BUT!
Funny thing is NUFC mentioned the 4-5 year plan what ever it was. then suddenly we are spending 35Mill and people claiming for top 5 the next season. DAJAVU! Seem to me some of the toon fans are slippin back into the "dark" side of wanting to spend everything, get top players and play in europe. We cant have BOTH.

My Opinion Id rather give all the kids new contracts then Joey, Enrique or Nolan and be happy with a top 10 next season.

What do you think? would you prefer to offer new contracts to the old boys or take the arsenal route, young signing and academy talent?

I haven't seen enough from any of the youngsters (bar Ferguson) that suggests that they are up to premier league standard!
In principle bringing through your own is the best way to go but i'm not sure we have the talent there yet!

We do need to bring the youngsters through, but without Nolan, Barton and Enrique, we are no way near a Prem quality team! They have to be top priority.

We need them. Backbone to our team.
Also where are the claims that Nolan is leaving?
Barton stated that he would want to stay if big names come. His last tweet about Cabaye shows that he wants to stay and a year and a bit is a long time in football contracts. The club could offer him a contract and he would sign it.

Supposedly the club is refusing to offer him a new contract, despite him saying he wants to stay and would take a pay cut.

Clubs already offered him a contract though which he didn't sign. Fact is we're going to hear back and forths from the club and Joey (and his agent), both of which will be completely self serving and theres no way we'll ever get the absolute truth. Joey can play the 'nice guy who wants to stay' routine on Twitter all he likes, all he's doing is trying to get on the fans good side while his agent tries to negotiate the best possible deal for him. If he doesn't get what he wants he's out, supposing of course that other clubs will match or better what he'd get here, I've a feeling he may be valuing his stock a little higher than what he's actually worth.

Wouldn't let Enrique run his contract down, he can talk to clubs in January and he'll be away on a free in the summer
