So there was a survey done which asked the fans if they want Pardew out or not.

    There were 3 options -

    1. Sack him.

You've had enough of Pardew, and we can't gamble on him. There's no point in keeping him, only to sack him midway through the season if things aren't improving. We need a new face in now. Pardew has a history of doing well at the beginning, but ****ing up eventually. The damage has been done, and Pardew has lost the dressing room. He wont be able to turn it around.

    2. Stick with him long term.

There's no point in us spouting **** about stability if we just sack managers whenever the chips are down. He lead us to 5th in the table and into the Quarter finals of the Europa League. You can't be **** and achieve those sorts of things. He deserves more time. This season was just a mess, but it can be sorted out. We have the same manager that had us pushing for the champions league last year!

    3. Last chance.

Sacking him now might not be the best thing. We have no one lined up to replace him, and we need to try and remain stable, and not chop and change whenever we're in a bad state. Pardew has done good things in the past. Despite the fact that he definitely has flaws, I think he should be kept on, and I think he could get the squad back how it was before the decline.

However, if things don't improve immediately, we need to get rid of him.

Sadly this particular vote has already been done. Three people were involved - Mike Ashley, Derek Llambias and Alan Pardew. No-one voted for "sack him". So, as fans, we're stuck. Might as well moan about transfers.

It's too late now to show him the door.
We have no one in the frame that would be any better
We need stability during the transfer window
He needs another season, then the jury can really be in a position to decide
A good indicator for his long term future, must be, who comes and who goes this summer.

i think you have to stick with him - one good season followed by one poor - probably deserves a bit longer?

No real point in sacking him if we have no one as good or better lined up. Think we've tried sacking a manager or two when the going got tough and it doesn't seem to have worked might as well trying to seeing if Pards can improve things next time round.
People say Pards, Ashley & Lambiarse should learn from their mistakes maybe we should too instead of calling for the manager to be sacked at the first sign of setback.

Here's hoping that's exactly, word for word, what the owner said.

Quite happy that they have taken the unpopular decision of giving time. He of course does have to get us into to the top 10 this season and get us back to style of our first full season with him, but if he manages that then they'll have made the right call. If not I'm sure it'll be "thanks Alan, we gave you a fair crack of the whip, now on your way"

Three seasons is a fair stint to get things moving and organised how you like as a manager.

Question though, say we finish 11th and are 5 points off 10th and crash out before the quarter finals of both domestic cups, what do you do then? Would you let him have another season to see if he can achieve yet more mediocrity???

Because that's the scenario I see, an 11th/12th place finish with no threat of relegation, but also no cup competition truly attacked and no prospect of us reaching the top 6. I reckon that'll happen and then he'll get another season and before you know it he's had four years and wasted a top quality squad (in parts).

Edit: This isn''t a "Pardew must go now" post. Just where to we draw the line with regards to his performance??? For those that want him to stay would you be happy with the above league/cup performances next season and for him then to get another season??? As technially he'll have underachieved again.

I think he'd get the bullet and to be fair, with the lack of distractions next season, the current squad and provided the relevant strengthening of the front line takes place, he couldn't really quibble. Even if he got nothing else except 2 strikers this summer, I'd expect a top 10 finish (unless Colo left then he'd obviously have to be replaced). Would I personally let him go again? It would largely depend on how we had got to 11th place. If we played like his first full season and ended up there then maybe (but probably not), if we'd been as disjointed as this year then I probably wouldn't. You're never wasting time giving time though, you're finding out in my opinion. We just don't know at present because we've had a jekyll and hyde time of it under him.

What I will say is we won't reach the top 6 unless there is some ridiculous strengthening or we over perform to astronomic proportions again. I don't see silly money being spent, and I think we have to be realistic about the quality of our squad. So barring a massive over achievement like his first full season, then top 6 is out of the question. Great if it happens but as long as we are top 10 I think we will have achieved the minimum standards for our squad and our standing.

I agree top 6 is too ambitous, but we need to be seen to making strides to get there again, or else it's pointless even existing as a football club. If I was MA & DL I would be telling Pardew you need 9th or above and should be no more than 10 points off 6th or something.

If he hits those targets then great, if he doesn't then you asses why etc. As you said if we're unlucky and miss out by a point or one place etc but played good football and had an attacking identity or were a team that kept plenty of clean sheets then you keep him on as he's laying foundations. If we're a disjointed mess again then you get rid. So I basically agree with you in this aspect.

One thing I will say is that If I was Pardew I'd really attack the league cup, it's there for a club like us to win it. It's small time for the big clubs, the Newcastle's, Everton's, Villa's and Sunderland's of this world should be looking to win this cup every season. It's criminal that we haven't even reached the quarter final of this competition for god knows how long.

He should have gone after the Reading game in all fairness. I really hoped we would have sacked him at the end of the season. At least he has no decision making in regards to incoming transfer activity. I couldn't imagine some of the **** he would bring in.

How do you know he has no say so? Why does he go to games scouting if he has no say so?

I think he will have some input and has been responsible for seeing a significant upgrade in quality since his arrival. He has made mistakes too like Obertan, but all managers do. He maybe hasn't balanced that uplift in quality with mentality and leadership though.
