Reports suggesting that we will try to sign Richard Dunne on a free. Didn't play for Villa at all last season due to injury but is back in training now. Another aging player with a history of long injuries so a bit of a gamble but could be a useful asset improving our defence if he stays fit. Hopefully we will sign him on a sensible wage. He does come with some baggage with some off the field discipline problems, so should fit in well , and has the record for the most own goals in the Premiership including one for us.
Not a signing that would make any sense to me. Have we learned nothing from the signings of AJ and Zamora?
I do share your reservations. As I said it would be a gamble, maybe we should sign him on a pay-as-you-play deal to safeguard ourselves. He is a player that Harry has tried to sign before.
Make no bones about it, Richard Dunne was a fantastic CB and IMHO much better than anything we have had in recent years. I'm not just saying that cause he's Irish but because his record at Prem and International level is simply superb. I've always believed that any team needs a balance of experience and youth. Our team and squad is unbalanced at the moment favouring too many overpaid mercenaries at the end of their careers. I would not buy Dunne to add to our already bulging list. However, if Harry were to get rid of 4 or 5 of these wasters then I would sign Dunne on a pay as you okay basis. Remember Nelsen. Dunne is a few years younger and IMO a much better player. Nobody can question Dunne's attitude. He breaks his b••ls week in and week out for his team and country. Would be an instant hit in the stands and would help Onouha or another younger CB to learn the game. No at the moment, but yes if we lose some of our tossers.
