He must have some incredibly slick explanation about the mess he left us in for them to appoint him. Some things are simply unbelievable and this is certainly one of them. I genuinely did not think he would manage in the PL again. As stated previously, knowing our luck, he'll probably have a storming run and finish 5th next season. Oh well.
Excellent news - another parasite off the wage bill. Sad for Stoke fans... But great for the newly promoted clubs. I see the Stoke fans are already protesting his appointment. Look forward to hearing his excuses this time.
Brutha, can you explain what the situation was prior to his signing with them? He was still on our wage bill?!
This is great news...we'll be playing Stoke next year and a good mate of mine out here is a Stoke fan.... Some stick in order me thinks .....
Hope he comes out with the ' never be in this position again' phrase. A local Stoke fan here is a real knob .............. now they have a manager to match.
Anybody know for sure what was his severance agreement? Did he get a lump sum or were we paying him until he got another job?
I'm pretty sure it's just an effect of firing him, as it is with firing anyone. You have to keep paying them at least a percentage of their salary for the rest of the time on their contract, or until they get another job.
in fairness, they suit each other two dour clubs and personalities, probably go well together, as Warnock said I wish he had his agent, football never ceases to amaze me
From the BBC website: Chairman Peter Coates told the Stoke Sentinel: "We had lots of inquiries about the job, including some very interesting names, but we decided Mark Hughes was a fit for us. His record speaks for itself. He has done excellently by anyone's standards. He's also a thoughtful, intelligent man with an intense desire to win." 'Nuff said.
The way I see it also Hughes will do a good job at Stoke IMO for a start he has a solid base there to grow upon rather than try and build ... In time we will all be unable to deny that he is solid but I understand how it hurts our fans now ... We will have to wait until we get a better manager as the shaky flaky Redknapp will just continue to make excuses but saying that he gets a chance if he stays with us which I still doubt ... HR retired about 5 years ago but no one knows including himself
He's given them the 'ol "Ambition" blarney. Also 'excellently by anyone's standards' does not include a whole host of PL managers, past and present.
Owen must be crying .................. if he had stayed, Hughes would of handed him a new 2 year contract at 70K a week.
Surely like all managers his going to come back to us and take a few players off our hands. So if someone can make a wish list for him and make it a sticky so he spots it quickly and then sods off for good,
