Norwich fan in peace, my old man reckons that big Ron was the best CF to play for us and was absolutely gutted like many others when you 'stole' him from us for a paltry fee ! RIP Ron

My first memories of watching saints was with Terry Paine crossing for big Ron to head in. A true gent, a true Saint, and a huge loss. What a contrast to the overpaid under performing prima donnas laying tonight!

Great tribute on the OS, and a great photo, which I have nicked for my avatar.

Of course Mick will always be the greatest Saint, but Ron really pushes him close. One of my favourite goals of his was scored for his beloved Wales. A far post header with apparently the entire Scottish team trying to drag him down as he towered above them to score. A man who stood head and shoulders above opponents both literally and metaphorically.

Just opened my laptop and read the sad news. One of my all time hero's. I went to Springhill school as a boy and would stand at the school fence and watch Ron training. As a 12 year old I was at the Dell watching the reserves play when the loudspeaker system kept announcing, Saints 1 Man U 0, Saints 2 Man 0 until it was Saints 4 Man U 0 and Ron Davies had scored all four. Everybody at the Dell was going nuts and I could not wait to get home and read the Football Echo that night. Quite numb really as I grew up in those heady days of Pain crosses to Davies and Saints score. RIP Big Ron.

Another Norwich fan who remembers Ron fondly from the sixties.

RIP and thanks for the memories.

Very sad news. Even kids like me know how important he is in the history of the club.

    RIP Ron.

As an 11 year old, watching Ron Davis score a goal every other game for Norwich put him in the HERO bracket. A giant in many ways, but his headed goals where phenomal. A real centre forward who was greatly missed when he was transfered to the Saints. Sadly we will probably never see the likes of him again!

Just wanted to add my condolences. <peacedove>

True hero....(cant help wondering how much Rickie would love to have Paine and Sydenham crossing into the far post for him)

Even now at their age they'd probably still whip in a better delivery than what our current players have come up with for most of the season!
