We hear a lot of speculation about new players. Some camps say spend big to secure out future, more cautious campers say spend little just in case we get hammered every week. While wages are a big factor lets speculate the 'war chest' with a starting point of 15 million What position or who would you buy? realistically....
GK (x2) Holding Midfielder Attacking midfielder/Winger Striker (x2) And if budget allows a CB who can also cover a full back spot (Figueroa)
Depends how well we do in the free market. Plenty of good deals to be had. If we do well enough there then £15m won't be necessary. Unless, of course, Brucie finds the next Antonio Valencia playing in the Chilean or Venezuelan league and feels the need to smash Jimmy's record.
I think we need to clear something up. Bruce did not do an amazing deal with any Chilean/Venezuelan/any other South American club. Valencia was in Spain before he went to Wigan.
My point was aimed at Valencia seeing as he was mentioned but I can comment on those 3 too. Rodallega 24 goals in 112 appearances at Wigan, 3 in 27 for Fulham. Palacios was never that popular at Spurs which is understandable, but not being popular at Stoke is another thing. Yeah he has had injuries, but at the end of the day all he does is chase the ball, with it he's useless. Figueroa, decent player but makes mistakes. Probably says something that he is still at Wigan despite them being a selling club.
Id be happy with Schmeichel and Austin or Rhodes, probably not both strikers as that'l cost too much but they'd be keepable if we got relegated, and would give us a hell of a chance of getting promoted the season after providing we can keep the current squad together. Couple of Loan signings - Andros Townsend, Nick Powell, Januzaj, Henriquez Bank the rest, sign last seasons loan signings, keep the squad together if we go down come back up and bank some more.
Wouldn't mind Chris Brunt from West Brom. Available on a free and would be an addition that would help us make the next step. And it would leave £15m to spend elsewhere.
I was simply pointing out the fact that Bruce has brought in talent from the Americas. And even though he did come from Villarreal, it was still one hell of a find if you consider he went onto Man Utd. I never once stated anything that you're implying. Supposedly set to sign new West Brom deal.
Whoever Sir Steve signs will be good enough for me, he has been outstanding in the transfer market so far and long may it continue.
I hope he brings in the right players, am a bit worried when I see us linked with the likes of Bardsley and Odemwingie though. I think a lot of the players we have are under-rated and maybe open to lots of improvement so hopefully we can have a repeat of last year when the money spent on Proschwitz was complimented by players we already had, and the fantastic signings of Meyler and Brady in the window
