Think I know where you're coming from St.G, so I took that badge and played around with it. I think the ships have to go, as they would make a badge too busy looking. How is this though..? Getting warm or useless..?
That looks pretty decent. I'm not too fussed by the current badge, as it's all I've known. But I like the old City crests, but fail to see where they would fit on a modern kit...
Perhaps a subtle change of a bear scratching its arse on the tree. Remember the club using a crude stick man saint in the 90s which was reminiscent of the title sequence of the saint tv show. I think the logo in all silver with the black background which club has used this season has freshened it up and gave it a classy look.
Often, when modernising club badges, they take a traditional theme and simply it. The issue with the current Saints badge would be that it was a complete departure when it came in, during the late 60's, and has since had a few tweaks, and that's it. There's almost nowhere to go with the current badge because it is as simple as it can get. So the obvious thing to do, apart from designing another completely new badge, is to look further back in Saints history. I think Markus would have preferred that, although I think Nicola would rather something completely new.
Must be getting warmer then. I think it needs a bit more simplification, but it's a start. I have tried some stripes inside the badge, but then the roses got lost in the mix. I'll have a think.
Leave it as it is, I love the fact that when i was getting into football i collected the football stickers with mates at school and getting the Saints badge sticker always was the best! We have had new kits, which i have loved, but you have to keep the basics if you ask me (Name and crest), with the kit remaining the same colours.
I've always had a disliking for our badge. It looks like a primary school students' design. I mean, a football with a halo? Really?! Eurgh, how lovely. And the scarf below it, oh dear oh dear. The tree, water, and flower I have more time for, but for me they don't really represent what our city is famous for. After all, every where has trees and water. I'd defo go with a more boaty type design. That traditional city crest with the two ships is definitely on the right track, but obviously way too detailed. However and whatever, I think a change is very necessary, and what better time, given all the other changes of late (stadium, kit, owners, managers, divisions etc). (Cue nasty backlash...)
Judging by survey, most want or would accept a badge change. The trouble is that some don't want change and they are more likely to march in the streets (like Cardiff and Everton) than those who just shrug and say okay.
