Dave Whelan has confirmed that Everton contacted him on friday about Martinez. Now it looks like he will be a Toffee.

I am surprised as with Wigan in the europa league next season RM would have stayed. That and getting Wigan back to the PL would have been a good way of ending his contract @ Wigan which ends in 2014.

Now all i can see for Wigan is a long hard season and an early europa league exit.

Good shout. How about Paul Scholes working alongside Phelan ?

Moyes is bringing alot of his Everton side kicks to Man Utd which maybe a bad idea so early.

That's the kind of mad bullshit that PL owners must be thinking when they sack their managers. You have to look at the stature of the club. Wigan have no right to finish higher than 17th. Their crowds are tiny, they aren't rich and have to look abroad for players. Every year he's kept them up was against expectations and an achievement in itself.

I hate this American idea which seems to be taking over, that anything other than a league title win is failure.

Martinez is a good appointment by Everton, he got Wigan playing football way beyond what was expected, the bubble burst in the end but even great managers get teams relegated sometimes, I remember when Cloughies Forest went down years back.

Look where they were with Bruce in charge? Its not impossible, if a club are staying up year after year by the skin of their teeth like they were under Martinez, you would expect them to sooner or later move forward and improve.

As a result of not improving they have now been relegated despite having players like Kone, McManamon, Maloney, Jordi Gomez, Beausejour, Watson, McCarthy. Just because he's a likeable guy it doesn't mean he is good enough to go to a club like Everton who finished 6th.

I know what you mean, but look at the teams above them? The PL is so full of money that even the lesser sides have quality players. Could they realistically expect to finish above the likes of Fulham, Sunderland or Villa looking at their budgets?

I agree. How can Poyet return to work at the club as the most senior member of the footballing side of the club when they've had him suspended for this long? If it turns out he's done nothing wrong his position has still been completely undermined either by the lack of support from the board (if it's over his media comments) or by the actions of another employee, probably a player (if it's not his media comments). The delay can only really mean he's going to be sacked or that the two parties are finding a way to end the situation without Brighton paying too much compo or Poyet looking too badly out of it.
