http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...ley-and-in-Premier-League-with-Hull-City.html Nice article. '.... I just don't think you understand.....'
Jesus, what a load of crap deal with. Respect to him for not letting the previous managers and all the other things in his life put him down.
It was reported at the time about his dad passing away but our more unenlightened fans (thats a lot of them) never gave him any leeway at all at the time
Can't believe people were attacking him because they found out he had signed for Man United, he's a great guy.
Concur. People forget why he fell out of favour. Gave Stoke and Ricardo Fuller a goal which cost us the game, then all his confidence went completely and he was dropped for his own good. He was shot mentally. Maybe Pearson and Barmby saw his technical limitations on a daily basis when compared to the likes of Hobbs, Chester, Ayala etc He was getting MOTMs as a joke this season when he started to re-establish himself, then he slowly improved. He panicked at Barnsley for their second. If he panics there, what will he be like again in the Prem? I worry for him- hope he proves me wrong.
A really good article, I am really pleased for him, having to go through that trauma with his Dad and then the rejection by NB & NB must have been hard to take. Great credit to him for sticking in there and proving many of his doubters wrong.
Agreed. Very nice piece. You can also mirror McShane's story with our own ex.Tiger Damian Delaney who was on the scrap heep last summer @ Ipswich Town. Then Dougie Freedman took a chance with DD and the rest is history. As both are ROI team mates i bet the banter this week will be great. 2 fantastic stories of success over hard times. Delaney was caught in a very emotional state after the game yesterday by sky. Heartwarming moment. So happy for Delaney and he was the MOM for me. Stood out for most of the game in the Wembley PO Final.
Not good enough for us in the Championship so we got rid. He will do well to survive in the Prem. Hope he does as I'n counting on Palace to finish below us and DD would give us a better chance.
Very harsh. DD is not that bad and has proved it. Palace though as a team will be weaker come august and i do feel that Palace will just take the money and run,, sorry drop down again. But its good for Hull City that Palace came up actually.
I have to admit to being one of Macca's haters over the last few years. The almighty cock-ups, (Stoke/Fuller being just the worst of many), the appalling lack of pace and passing ability, (Barnsley away last season springs to mind) and just generally seeming to struggle even at Championship level. This time last year I was thinking he's only a year to run then we can get rid....... How 12 months changes things though. He's been a quality performer this season, full of heart and passion the likes of which are rare in the game today. Reading that article has actually made me feel a bit ashamed of how much I slated him and really puts things into perspective. Really pleased he's got a new contract and let's hope he continues his fine form into the PL. It was still a blatant handball goal against Forest though. But a great one at that!
He just gave a MotM performance in the playoff final though, and been regular at the heart of their defence all season, he's now an Ireland international and he isn't at an age like Windass was in 2008 which is likely to cause a problem so why not? If the best players from the promoted teams can't play in the PL, who can? There's far more players who get promoted to the PL and do alright than people seem to realise. It's a myth that everyone buys an entire new team upon promotion. I expect Delaney will be a Premier League footballer in the next few months.
