    Retained list confirmed

Full retained list revealed ahead of 2013-14 season.

Sunderland AFC today confirmed the club’s retained player list for the 2013-14 season.

Several out-of-contract players have been released including Titus Bramble, Matthew Kilgallon, Ryan Noble, Adam Reed and Ben Wilson. Loan players Danny Rose and Kader Mangane have returned to their parent clubs.

The retained list shows those players currently under contract at Sunderland AFC or with contract offers pending.

SAFC RETAINED LIST AS OF May 2013

    Goalkeepers:
Simon Mignolet, Keiren Westwood, Jordan Pickford, Joel Dixon

    Defenders:
Phil Bardsley, Carlos Cuellar, Wes Brown, John O’Shea, David Ferguson, Scott Harrison, Liam Marrs, Connor Oliver, John Egan, Louis Laing, Jordan Watson

    Midfielders:
Lee Cattermole, Sebastian Larsson, Craig Gardner, Jack Colback, David Vaughan, Alfred N’Diaye, Adam Johnson, James McClean, Ahmed Elmohamady, Stephane Sessegnon, Alejandro Gorrin, Billy Knott, Adam Mitchell, Craig Lynch, George Honeyman

    Strikers:
Steven Fletcher, Danny Graham, Connor Wickham, Mikael Mandron, Ji Dong-won, Jordan Laidler.

Apart from Mig, O'Shea, Laing, Catts, Colback' N'Diaye' Johnson, Sess, Knott, Fletch, Wickham and Mandron im not too bothered of who goes

Would like to keep gardner due to versatility, ji as i think he could come good, westwood as hes a good backup and possibly vaughany for his spectacular goals

Obviously though the chances are Elmo, Ji, Bardsley, McClean, Vaughan are leaving, think we will get roughly just over £10m from the sales of them

Not much considering, however some canny bosman transfers seem to be available

The list of defenders is shocking. Only 4 senior defenders at the club and likely to go down to 3 when Bardsley is shown the door. We definitely need to offload some of the many midfielders we have if we are to improve on quality.

Catts (never been a fan of his), Larsson, Vaughan, Elmo and McClean would make some space in the squad and free up a chunk of the wage bill ;)

A box of smarties and a bottle of fizzy pop would do it for me.

Given that one of those three defenders is Brown, we really only have two. Got to be a priority to get in another 2 or 3 experienced guys.

Whatever happened to Roarie Deacon - he was going to be the next big thing when we signed him from Arsenal, I must have missed him being released.

Yeah, I thought about Wes but as he is getting back to fitness I thought I would be generous with him ;) He'll probably break down in pre season training now I've said that

Good point about Rorie Deacon, I didn't see anything either.

Edit: He plays for Stevenage Borough after being released by us earlier this year...

i think he was never fully over one injury when he played too soon on it and set himself backwards again, he played because he wanted to and also we were in the **** at that time , poor decisions were madelby him and the medical staff.
if fully fit from the start a very good player imo

Reckon we'll see a few more of those released by the start of the season. Agree about our defenders however at least they have age in their side

    Ah maybe not ;)
