Well he left us to go up a division. Can't really blame him for that I suppose, and he did stay at Wigan when he was offered the job at Villa. If you believe reports he was also offered the Liverpool job before Rodgers (senile old Whelan let that cat out of the bag). Four years in the Prem shows a fair amount of loyalty imo.

He's a decent manager but I would worry about him ever coming back here until he's proven that his teams can defend.

So much for his love for Wigan.

Several things amaze me about the Martinez saga:
    - People keep claiming he's a top manager. Wigan were 11th (I think) when he arrived, and gradually got worse every year.
    - Martinez says "he thinks now is a good time to quit". What, you mean after you just got your beloved team relegated, the team you love so much that you walk out as soon as it doesn't fit in with your career plans? Yeah right.
    - Dave Whelan says "he's a man of his word blah blah blah". He said he'd give his decision last week but spun the Wigan fans along all weekend, doubtless while being in discussions with Everton behind their back. Well he did exactly the same thing to us - remember that period of waiting he put us through?
    - How on earth can Everton think he's up to managing them? They'll be lower half of the table next year - if not worse!

Once a Judas, always a Judas in my books. Thank goodness we're rid of the slimeball. Laudrup has more integrity in his little toenail than Martinez.

Spot on Campion. Everton fans really dont want him. See it as a step backwards.

Martinez laid the foundations of what we are today and that shouldn't be forgotten. He left to go to a better job with better pay. You would have done the same in whatever your line of work is. Most of us would, and he's done the same now. Why fans have the deluded belief that managers and players are loyal to their club is beyond me. Only the fans are loyal - and not all of them.

The players at Wigan also had something to do with their relegation and it can't all be laid at Martinez's door. But he is a flawed manager for sure and his teams' defensive frailties are well known. That said, not many managers would stay with a relegated club if offered a job in a higher league would they?

Get over the bitterness. I have and wish him well. <ok>

Oh, and rumour has it that it could be Malaga, not Everton. Let's see.

What goes around comes around. If he goes to Everton, it will be one less club we will have to worry about next year. He's going to spend another couple of years minimum trying to reshape them into Swansalona.

If I was an Everton, I wouldn't be too happy about this .... on the other hand it could be worse - they could have got at Ol'Sparky before Stoke.

I think part of the problem with Wigan is that they kept selling their best players, they from what I saw never really backed Martinez. I've got over what anger I had for him a long time ago, in the fall and rise programme he came across very very well, and you could see he has a lot of affection for our club.

If he takes the Everton job I wish him luck, maybe we can beat them with him there next season ;)

Yes he did come across well in the "Fall and Rise" programme. But I think that's typical Martinez tbh, all skirt and no knickers. The man is just a great big fraud. We all know that here, don't we?

Loved whelans comments on Martinez to Everton. 'Great club, run the same way as Wigan, they have a great fan base, EVEN BIGGER ThAN WIGAN.' No **** sherlock That would be everton along with 50 other clubs then.

I actually think Martinez isnt a bad manager, its just he cant pick a defender or organise his defence and that has cost him dearly and will continue to do.

i would have more respect for bobby if he had stayed at Wigan for a season to try and get them back up but that is not his style is it.

In general yes, but he buried QPR with the "talent" he brought in .

I cant hold any malice towards any manager who leaves a lower Div side to move to the prem, all of us on this forum are chucking names of championship managers around for the vacant prem jobs knowing that any manager would move up in a heartbeat. Maybe Everton isnt the biggest club but it will be nice to see what a ex-swans player can do with a bigger budget and a good team at his disposal. The Toffees will get some satisfaction that he turned his nose up to Liverpool too if he does go there

But it's not any old manager - its a manager who claimed how much he loved the club (another one!!!), got them relegated, spun them along for a fortnight, then shoved off to pastures new. Zero integrity (if not less).

What difference does it make though , it's not us he's leaving but Wigan. And as been mentioned if you were offered a job that multiplied your wages several times would you turn it down ? Would you be bothered by customers of the old company saying you have zero integrity for not staying with your old company?

I love my job and the company I work for are great, but if a company offered me £100k a year it would be astalavista baby and I would be gone, sod how happy I am now.

Agree with everything except the Judas bit as he had no option than to leave us as he had no backing in the end...
He has not improved wigan since jewel days of a good mid table side in fact he has made them worse with just scraping by last season and taking them down this season.....he does have the knack of pulling out the odd result against the bigger teams but that's it....He may do ok at everton but i doubt it by his standard in the premiership so far and i think everton are going on the cheap option as they are not a rich club by any standard....I wish him all the best but i cant see him doing much...
