Not true!! 45 million euros James and 25 João Moutinho. Sporting Lisbon has a sell on clause of 25% of the values superior to 11 million so Sporting will get 3.5 Still think both should worth about the same but its not 59+1
FC Porto has reached an agreement with Monaco, playing in the French League, for the definite transfer of players João Moutinho and James RodrÃguez. To assure the economic and sporting rights of both athletes, Monaco will be paying 70 Million Euros (45 for James and 25 for Moutinho), in what is now the biggest business in history of Portuguese football. From their official website. http://www.fcporto.pt/English/News/news_eng_futjamesmoutinhomonaco_240513_75604.asp
I don't think they had the chance. It's surprising he has gone for this fee if Spurs were genuinely interested though. He is worth more than the 25m euro as it is, but with 2 interested clubs I thought they'd be able to bump the price up.
Spurs couldn't have purchased him as he was part owned by an agent and not 100% by the club. Similar to the Falcao issue running currently
There are ways around it though. Surely all it would take is for Porto to buy the player outright for the fee that would go to the third party and Spurs give Porto the full fee.
How can Monavo afford this considering they've only just been promoted, aren't guaranteed Ligue 1 football next season and will sopn have to abide by the fair play rules?
Porto is in the stockmarket they have to give all the details of the transfers. So its two things, official and true
People who like to see the football happenings across the Globe? It's the biggest financial deal in Portuguese Football history. I for one thought this was quite surprising and interesting. Will be intriguing to see whether Monaco's spend-spend-spend strategy works and whether they compete with the likes of PSG, Lyon and Marseille next year for the rights of European football.
