Sorry guys I'm currently going post crazy but I've been thinking about this one for a while and I'm also excited :emoticon-0111-blush

Looking at the current Leeds squad on the official site there is something very promising which catches my eye.

    GK: Alex Cairns
    LB: Adian White
    LB: Charlie Taylor
    CB: Ross Killock
    CB: Tom Lees
    RB: Sam Byram
    RB: Lewis Turner
    CM: Zac Thompson
    CM: Chris Dawson
    ST: Domonic Poleon

All the above have been produced by our academy, barring two wingers and another striker that is a full team! I've also noticed Simon Lenighan isn't currently listed but is another who has been given a 2 year contract.

Along with the youth listed in our current squad we have also recently signed another crop of lads up to professional contracts, apparently the first time we have signed 5 since the Smith/Kewell era.

With the new role Neil Redfearn has been given I think the players listed above will see adequate playing time.

The reason I'm posting this article is to point out that although we need to get rid of some oldies we do have some quality coming through the ranks and in my opinion we only need maybe 3-5 quality additions to the squad.

I suppose the academy are reserving judgement over Lenighan until his retrial...

Great stuff, and there's some amazing talent to come from the U18s!! Leeds need to bring these youngsters through, but with the pressure of getting promotion I'm not sure we'll see too much of them. Of we do get to Prem, chances are we won't see them at all ... bit of a catch-22 situation.

It takes a brave man to throw them into the first team or even matchday squad, the benefits though could be huge.

Great post Jonny. Only way were likely to make it back to the Premiership and stay there will be hopefully with a big input from the academy. Of course, that will require a lot of patience from the fans, as it would likely take a couple of seasons at least. Leeds fans not renowned for their patience and I'm one of the worst. Really like the idea of blending some of those young lads with a few quality signings. That last bit depends on GFH though and that worries me

Thanks Eire, I really hope we start to blood the youth because there is nothing better than seeing youth players come through and do the business.

Look at Arsenal they do it year after year...

Excellent work - apart from the fact that Sam Byram is the only one on that list that's Championship material, the rest would be a good side in the Northern Premier <ok>

    Tom Lees? Aiden White?

Can't see many home grown players kicking about at Millwall...

    Bore off

Does that translate into the whole Millwoe side would be an average side in the Southern Premier or is that league weaker than the Northern version? <doh>

It may be quite interesting playing with 2 RBs and 2 LBs with only 2 CMs in midfield.

    <cheers>

I reckon charlie taylor has a bigger future than White. He can actually cross the ball and isn't much slower than aidy

I'd prefer to see White sold. He's not going to improve any further and has little to offer apart from pace
He's had a right few seasons to up his game and hasn't happened
