The Stoke board need certifying. As if there wasn't a clear cut illustration of Hughe's ability,or rather lack of,as a manager for all to see from what he did to your club.
With all due respect, I don't see this as great news for the simple reason being that we want to play against this impostor in the Championship. so to sign up with Stoke is not the answer I want to hear. Besides, I don't think Stoke can match his ambitions ...................... sorry, gotta laugh!
I said i feel sorry fir the fans. The fans didn't sack Pulis - they did show their displeasure, rightly so for the piss-poor tactics and performances. Agree the actions of the club shoddy, but the fans are the paying customers and are entitled to expect to be entertained. I wouldn't wish Hughes on any set of fans... excluding the obvious ones...
This strikes me as the work of his agent getting his name in the news, he wont get the job but then others will interview him thinking he was a front runner for stoke.
Oh, I'm sure the club has been naive enough not to have written anything as clever as that into whatever paperwork they did with Hughes. Either way, I'm surprised at the seemingly high degree of likelihood of Hughes going to Stoke City. It may be an unlovely club, with unlovely fans in an unlovely place, but it's never struck me as being particularly badly run.
I don't think he will do well necessarily but he is inheriting a stable Premiership side so I don't think he will do so badly either. I dont wish Stoke ill but it will be interesting to see how this one pans out in the long term.
Stoke are a NPC side staying in the PL on team spirit and work rate. He will destroy them. Like Harry, he relies on buying better players rather than tactics or team spirit. Stoke are relegated without team spirit.
Flyer, it is a fascinating experiment. If Hughes does to Stoke what he did to us then surely his career as a manager is over. On the other hand, IF if does well / ok then perhaps we need to look within for blame / explanations.
He might not be allowed to infest the club with kia represented players. It was his fault and also the fault of TF for trusting him too much but then that's what we ask of an owner.
There is no way Hughes can blame anyone but himself, who signed all the crap players after saying "Never again on my watch"?...
Largely true but a bit more complex than that. Who decided wages that divided the camp? Who sorted contracts, or not? Who helped divide the dressing room with mouthy tripe? I have no wish to defend Hughes but it is not all him.
In a nutshell.................... he signed poorly and then crapped on himself and the club by making such a statement. To top it off, he refused in the slightest to acknowledge what a poor job he had done. I for one, would cop it IF he apologised to the fans .............. but his silence was deafening.
Mirror 27th May Mark Hughes is closing in on a surprise return to management with Stoke. Hughes held negotiations with the Potters' hierarchy over the weekend and is hopeful of sealing a deal within 48 hours. Stoke confirmed last week they had made an approach, and Hughes has clearly done enough to convince chairman Peter Coates to make him favourite to replace fellow Welshman Tony Pulis. Hughes had been regarded as an unpopular choice among fans after his turbulent reign in charge at Queens Park Rangers ended in the sack in November. But the former Wales, Blackburn and Manchester City boss built a strong reputation before his QPR misadventure, and is determined to jump back into management. Hughes is expected to be offered a 12-month rolling contract to be Pulis' successor. Brighton boss Gus Poyet and Wigan's Roberto Martinez have been the other leading candidates. But Malaga and Everton, looking to replace Manuel Pellegrini and David Moyes respectively, also want Martinez, while Poyet is locked in a legal battle with Brighton. That has left the way clear for Hughes, who will want to bring long-serving assistants Mark Bowen and Eddie Niedzwiecki with him and will be expected to work closely alongside Stoke's technical director Mark Cartwright. Cartwright, who was appointed last year, is seen as vital in Stoke's new set-up by Coates and Hughes will work in tandem with the former agent. Stoke will step up their bid to make an appointment on Tuesday, with a view to completing a deal quickly.
