Yup, we know what's happening now, so would be nice to get behind the team and Pards to see if they can turn it around. Pards has won us over once already (for me it was the day of the 4-4), lets see if he can do it again.

Is this sarcastic? Or is the concept of vast quantities of free advertising lost on you?! This is not about the club, it's about the associated sales. And a quick glance at any business paper will tell you that sports direct has grown consistently since he took over at NUFC.

Reads to me as Pardew told them they stiffed him by not signing any players last year, knowing they had the extra Europa league games.
The extra traveling to games which are played on what is universally agreed upon as a poor night (Thursdays) to recover for Sundays league games.
They stiffed him by having also allowed several experienced squad/back up player leave.
The known short falls in the squad (CB & CF) were not remedied.
The injuries, the known Ba situation/unsettlement and the Colloccini affair also added to the problem.
He also threw into the mix that they would look like mugs if they gave him the bullet after saying they were looking for longevity and the 8 year contracts etc.

So they've given him til Christmas to show what he can do without the European distractions and hopefully with a few additions to balance the squad.
If we're struggling by November then the door hits him on the ass on the way out.

Could the top ten target be with a view of
    1. we were close to getting there this year (due to a lack of quality from the bottom 13 really) so with minimal tweaking (less spending) we should tread water. (A bad move, 52,000 saw what lesson was learned from last years standing still, I fear two people won't take heed though).
    2. every club is roughly £20m better off this summer and will spunk it on players whilst we will be savvy and save it, so a top 5 side who doesn't spend should expect to lose a couple places, therefore we will be 10th ish. (again blinkered view of this squad got 5th last year and was expected to be top 8, had a few problems this year but should still be good enough for 8th).

You know what this statement says to me?

It's as near as damn it a cold hard confirmation that last season's success and top 5 finish was a blip.
An unfortunate accident which inadvertently raised the expectations of fans who show up, cough up even when their expectations have been kicked into submission.

They spent most of this season blaming the achievements of last year, using the Europa League qualification as the excuse for all the evil in the world.

Pardew's targets start and end with keeping the football club in the Premier League money-spinner. Achieve that he's safe.

What a fabulous showing of ambition...

Since expectations have been lowered, I'd not be suprised if we do better than 10th/

I'd like Pardew to explain how two players will be the difference between the dire crap we've seen all year and total football. That's essentially the implication. I could sort of understand it if we intended to sign Vidic and Bale, they actually do make a difference to their sides. But as we're more likely to be after individuals like Emmerson Boyce and Charlie Austin....

I don't mind this statement. They're basically saying we're going to improve by at least 6 places in the league, that's not a bad thing. They're also trying to lower expectations that the fans have of the squad that under performed last season.
It's all very well blaming Pards for everything but most of the guys who performed well when we finished 5th were s*** this season. Some of the onus has to be on them to improve.

When they say "affordable football" do they mean for the fans or for the club ie the club remaining slovent/profitable to come into line with the UEFA financial fair play rules?

And people STILL saying Ashley's only in it for the money etc etc? What planet are you on? Ashley has made no money from the club but has invested about quarter of a billion quid instead. That's a fact. In black & white. It's in the club's financial statements and tax returns.

Credit to MA, he's put money into the club, whereas Freddy Shepherd's whole intention was to take money out.

    A massive improvement on Shepherd.

i think it's a good thing. Changing the manager every five minutes is not a recipe for success. Consistency is key, and sticking by a manager in bad seasons as well as good.

Arsene Wenger is now the longest serving manager for a single team in the Premiership, and Pardew second (now that Moyes has left Everton) - this is MENTAL.

We had a depleted squad after last summer, the Europa league (which we made to the quarter finals, while travelling multiple times to Russia/Ukraine), and the worst injury crisis I can remember since what happened to Roeder... remember, Pardew did take us to 5th place previously. too quickly forgotten i think....

A lot of the problems were down to not buying in players last summer, and leaving it til January... and a lack of strikers FFS....

I expect we'll see purchases this summer. Lessons learned hopefully!

It's understandable that many of us are feeling emotions in the range from disenchanted to furious that Pardew has not been replaced after such a dire season, but embracing that negative vibe and swinging to the 'Ashley is only in it for the money' seems a little ridiculous. The accounts released every year prove this is not the case, and if he were to take any money out of the club it would hardly offset the amount he has already put in... Something like a quarter of a billion isn't it? True, it's been used to do things like clear the crazy debts built up during the Shepherd years and has not been money invested in playing squad for the most part but it's still a vast sum that has gone out of his pocket.

To step away from negativity, the transfer blueprint is a good one. Carr is an excellent scout and I remain confident that players identified by him and signed on his recommendation will, more often than not, turn out to be good purchases, irrespective of how little they might cost. The one real concern (other than Pardew) is that the board sanction the required number of signings in the appropriate transfer window. If they do that this summer then we should hopefully have a somewhat renewed confidence to go into next season with, remembering how the team played with the 4-3-3 at the end of the 2011-2012 season when all of our best players were fit and firing together. Just have to hope that Pardew and the players can get back to that as the football was fast, fluent and attacking... The polar opposite of the approach to games this season.
