These two were amongst the worst managers we've ever seen at the club.

Just to gauge how far Pardew has fallen, I put forth a comparison to Graeme "Dismantler" Souness

Among these two managers, who would you rather have?

Alan "I talk nonsense before and after every game" Pardew

    or

Graeme "I will kick out Bellamy Robert Solano and bring in Luque" Souness

Personally, I'd go for Pardew, the only reason being my deep hatred for Souness ruining a possible golden era that we had then.

But it's a very close call, considering how irate I've been at Pardew's flawless ineptness this season.

Why is this so clearcut for you?

    Considering:
-Shola 60th minute on was cause for Arsenal loss as said by him
-Sissoko in #10 role for donkey years and not working
    -Epic Failure at set pieces
-"Thank God we're not in Europe. That Gives everyone a boost"
-Subs best player MYM out , Jonas at LB
-Anita/Marveaux unable to find playing time at all
-"Promise a show" , "Sunderland can only dream of being in Europe"

Just some of the grievances that made my decision tough...

Pardew is a likeable fella - Souness is vile
Pardew delivered a 5th placed finish
Souness signed Boumsong, Luque and Owen for a combined £35m / Pardew signed Cabaye, HBA and Sissoko for a combined £10m.
Oh.. and Souness also forced Bellamy, Robert and Ollie Bernard out of the club... three of my favourite players.

Pardew without a shadow of doubt. If we'd had Sourmess in charge we'd be down, no question about it. And 5th place would never have happened. This isn't even a comparison; Pardew's just limited, Souness is plain vile, an arrogant, almost despotic individual who has ruined morale and relationships wherever he went. I'm sure someone might say otherwise, but didn't he essentially dismantle Liverpool and plunge them into obscurity?

It's like saying "Shepherd or Ashley?" - for all we seemed to reach dizzying heights under Shepherd and got relegated under Ashley, I'd still plump for SportsDirect every time.

Pardew is the least worst of the two. At least Pardew seems to have confidence in himself. At the end of every one of Souness' interviews he used to say "I am thinking of my family. I am a family man" and the poor sod seemed to be almost in tears.

Pardew thinks he knows what he's doing which is a positive, even if it's a false positive whereas Souness knew that he was out of his depth. Oh yes, Boumsong; that was a classic purchase. I wonder how many shirts were sold with his name on the back and how many people actually admit to that.

But I would rather have Souness back than Kinnear. And I would rather have Kinnear return from his sick bed than to have Mark Hughes given the job. At least with Kinnear the interviews will be entertaining whereas Hughes would spout self-indulgent bollocks and, like the above, destroy the team.

The season hasn't even started yet, the transfer window hasn't yet opened and, already, the depths of pessimism are being plunged ever deeper...

How does Dogleish not make the cut in this thread?

He ruined 'The Entertainers' so he could play his own son. Haha the guy is nothing short of absolute garbage and is by far the biggest flop in your club's history. You actually could have beaten us to trophies when Cantona retired (he was always the difference maker), but you brought Kenny in and he turned a fantasy football team into a puddle of talentless diarrhoea.

I had thought whether to include him in, but in the end felt like it was better to make it a two-way struggle between these two. Which was why I didn't include some like Dogleash, Gullit, Kinnear. But we all saw what Dogleash did with Liverpool last season when fans clamoured for him to manage them <doh> what an epic fail that was.

You're absolutely right about Souness dismantling Liverpool. I have a close buddy who is a fan there, and let's just say he had some choice words for Souness, which would have been apt when we talk about his time up here as well.

Dalglish was arguably the worst. He actually got rid of our most talented players so he could give his old mates some money. A team that once boasted Beardo, Sir Les, Daveed and Clarkie then had Pearce, Rush, Barnes, Dalglish and Hamilton FFS! Truly, truly incredible.

Let's try and order them, Prem era, worst to best:

Special mention and not included - Joe Kinnear, not really a football manager. Nor Shearer.

    1. Dalglish
    2. Souness
    3. Gullit
    4. Pardew
    5. Fat Sham
    6. Roeder
    7. Hughton
    8. Keegan
    9. SBR

Blimey. Bit embarrassing that Glenn and Chris are so near the top!!

A prime example of a good player not necessarily making a good manager.

Pardew comfortably. He has done ok overall. Decent half a season, massive over achievement 2nd season, massive under achievement 3rd season. Jury out.

Souness - Awful all the time.
Allardyce - Shockingly bad. Football worst I've seen in all my time watching Newcastle. 60 yard bombs to Martins and Owen.
Gullit - Sexy football my arse, all we got was a massive ego!

Dalglish is often mentioned but he did ok. Took us from 4th to 2nd in his first half season. Poor second season as we went into transition with him being forced to break up the side KK built with the board saying wages etc was out of control. Gave us a cup final appearance though, and a cracking run in the CL including that memorable night! He made some shrewd signings which served us well long term including Solano, Given, Speed, three of blue chips under Bobby. Others like Dabizas, Hamman, Griffin were good signings too. Then there was Dahl Tomasson, a good player who we just didn't give enough time too. Like all managers he made some poor signings of course - Anderrsson, Brady, Hamilton, Guivarch (who to be fair looked good)etc. Operating on a different budget to those before and after him though. I think we had a net spend of something like 9m over the time he was here, and a vastly reduced wage bill by the time he left.

I'd place Souness as the worst. Besides shipping out Bellamy as he just couldn't get on with him, and having the utter embarrassment of having Bowyer and Dyer scrapping on the pitch, he moved on Aaron Hughes, which was an awful decision. Most of his signings were terrible value for money.

Whilst Dalglish brought in a load of his old pals at a bit past their sell by dates, he did bring in a few good players who served us well.

I'd put Allardyce as worse than Pardew on the signing of Alan Smith alone.

Can I have Keegan and Sir Bobby as the joint kings of my praise in this line up. Our stadium was built on KK's success, and was decorated with Sir Bobby's style ....

I don't think Pardew's amongst the worst managers we've ever had, so I'd say Souness was worse.

There was nothing to like about him at all and he never scaled the heights Pardew did last year, so I think it's a slightly unfair comparison.
I mean, Fat Sam & Gullit were far worse for us from what I recall. Ok Allardyce never had any time really but by the looks of where he was taking us it's a good job.

Under Kenny Dalglish we came perilously close to relegation one year when Shearer's goals thankfully dug us out. Took a quality team right down the tubes.

I'd say Pardew has cancelled out his success with us last year given this season's efforts so for me it's year zero again on his judgement.
We have to accept his stewardship next season and we can only hope he sorts it out.

I think now we know NUFC's position it serves us no good to be negative. He's the manager, support him and support the team.

Which I know you all will... As bloody usual... :D

I just hope everyone at the club....... players, managers and coaching staff start a fresh and look at the issues at hand and make amends. Id hate to think any transfer requests get put in over the summer linked to the confirmation pardew is still the manager. Hopefuly its lessons learned from the coaching staff up to board level but time will tell once the seasons underway.

Always support the team no matter what.

    Not necessarily individuals though.

Luque wasn't a Souness signing, that was Fat Freddie!
Pardew is better than Souness but only just. I personally do not think last season had much to do with Pardew - it was all about luck and this year we didn't have the luck and so a true position under Pardew has been highlighted.
