The problem there is you would have to give less allocations through the league place for the CL i.e. top 3 qualify for the CL and the winner of the FA CUP gets the the play off place. Another problem with this is... every other club around Europe would want their domestic trophy to gain their team a place in the CL which means less teams would qualify through the league position!

The problem? That's the good thing about it. Why reward 4th so well?

If you read on, my second point was that it wouldnt work because every domestic cup winner would want a CL place thus meaning less teams qualifying through the league position. So say for argument's sake the winners of the FA cup also finish in the CL places through their league position, who then gets that place? the 4th place team in the league or the runner up of the FA cup? its a recipe for disaster!

Forgive my ignorance here, but don't the FA of each country decide how European Qualification happens in their own leagues?

I do actually generally agree with your sentiment and would like to see it happen although with that deeper squad depth i fear that the same teams would end up in the CL anyway in the vast majority of seasons as happens now but to say the FA cup winners are in the CL would sound better and give others at least some chance.
Finances being such a ruling factor in the game i suspect the more likely type of solution would involve some kind of money spinning end of season play off such as 4th 5th FA cup winners and League cup winners with the play off winners going to CL and the other 3 to the EL.

Definitely not! But then only the winner of their league should play in the European Cup (or CL as it is now), and losers in the CL should remain just that, losers. Why they go into the Europa I have no idea whatsoever. European competition is a bit of a farce and completely driven by money. The funniest thing of all is that UEFA are now whining about FFP, yet they are part of the problem why these clubs will risk it all to get to the promised land! They've made the CL so lucrative that clubs can't resist it. The CL is like an exclusive club too to these billionnaires.

Looks like Uefa are finally starting to listen to me lol, not that it will benefit us:angry:

Europa League winners could earn Champions League place
Uefa will announce on Friday whether the Europa League winners will be rewarded with a Champions League qualifying spot from 2016.
The move would be designed to boost interest in Europe's secondary club tournament.
The decision follows months of discussions between the European Club Association (ECA) and Uefa officials.Meanwhile, Berlin's Olympic Stadium has been revealed as the venue for the Champions League final in 2015.
That year's Europa League decider will be at Warsaw's National Stadium, which staged the opening game of Euro 2012.
The Europa League generates far less income and media attention than the Champions League.
The governing body has tried a number of initiatives to increase interest, with previous attempts including the change of name from Uefa Cup to its current title in 2009.
Currently, teams who finish third in their Champions League group drop into the competition.
This season's final was contested between two teams who entered that way, Chelsea beating Benfica 2-1 in Amsterdam.
Uefa is also expected to announce it will raise the maximum number of Champions League qualifiers per country from four to five, if the winners of the Europa League from 2015-16 do not finish in their domestic league's qualifying places for the Champions League.
Should the winners of both European competitions come from the same country and not finish in their league's qualifying places, both would be in the Champions League the following season.
Uefa is keen to avoid a repeat of the scenario that happened in the Premier League in 2011-12 when Chelsea won the Champions League and Tottenham were placed into the Europa League despite finishing fourth in the top flight.

Does allowing champions league rejects to enter it not lower the prestige already?[/QUOTE]

yes, but champions league drop outs should not go into EL and get another chance to qualify through that

We've benefited from it in the past too, but completely agree – it's common sense. Teams wanna nab those spots purely for the money, with no real intention or sensible belief they can win it.

For teams to be crowned European Champions without winning or even coming second in their domestic league (Liverpool, Chelsea etc) for me cheapens the Champions League.

In fact the ill-thought out initiatives by UEFA to add value to the Europa League are the very things that do it the most damage.
For me the Europa is what it is and is great in its own way, and if it can't command enough attention against the CL then that says more about the shallow affections of the mainstream football public.

The CL should be contested between the winner of the domestic league and the winner of the domestic cup. The EL should be between those who win secondary cup competition and 2nd/3rd/4th in the table. 2 CL entrants, 4 EL entrants. They need to be more proportionate in revenues for the EL clubs as well - it should be a 50/50 split in the pot, but obviously with less teams the CL entrants would benefit more.

UEFA have fcked it up so badly now it has little/no chance of ever being brought back in line. Only a matter of time before clubs "opt out" of the tournament altogether.

The CL dropping into the EL is the stupidest fecking decision in football.
